Food Confused
Ok, i am very confused too!
I read everyones posts every day and im always hearing about how many calories and protein everyone is required by their dr or nut....and i sit and wonder if I had the same surgery as you all. Ok, so i know i have....but......my doctor has never once told me i had to have a certain amount of anything!! Ive never been required to see a nut and he has never given me requirements to follow. All he has told me is that i can eat what my family eats now, and to always eat the protein part of my meal first. Thats it! He also told me i need to ge****er in each day, but to try not to drink with my meal. He said that i should only eat when im hungry and that its not necessary to eat 3 meals if im not hungry for it. He said to just eat when im hungry.
I have asked him about protein shakes and he told me no. I only asked him about them after i realized you all push the protein at the advice of your dr's. I cant help but wonder what to do. Maybe i need to seek my own nut out? I want to do this right, but i havent really been given all of the guidelines you seem to have to follow. Im confused!
In the meantime, i think im going to go ahead and try to get some sort of protein in. Do any of you recommend one product over another?
I use Unjury protein, but everyone is different with what their stomach can handle. You can go on their website and order samples before you buy a big bottle. www.unjury.com
One of the important reasons to have protien is to maintain muscle mass. Per my NUT/doc our bodys will go into starvation mode and start using up our muscles first
and try to store the fat. That is why it's important to walk atleast 5 days a week for 30-45 mins to help protect our organs (heart) as they are all muscles too.
Ohh...and it helps prevent our hair from falling out...
Best of luck. I hope you can find a good WLS NUT.

I fully realize I'm not "normal". But I concentrate on protein, protein, protein. PLUS I realize that calcium, thiamine, potassium, and iron are often low in WLS patients. So I also try and eat foods high in these nutrients everyday, plus take my multi-vitamin.
Example: Morning, first thing, my shake. 25g of protein powder (isopure vanilla) 1 small banana (potassium), 3 or 4 small strawberries (mostly for flavor) 5 ice cubes (makes a frothy shake) 6 oz. of FF skim milk (calcium),plus a tablespoon of beneful fiber Blend it all until smooth and enjoy.
Late morning I usually have 1 egg and 2 or 3 links of turkey sausage.
Early afternoon I have another vanilla/ banana / strawberry shake.
I work afternoons, so at 5PM I usually have a frozen dinner. I like the sliced turkey meal.
8 pm break I usually have a South Beach diet peanut butter protein bar.
If I'm hungry when I get home at 11 pm (and I usually am) I like to have a small frozen burrito topped with cheddar cheese. I go to bed between 12:30 aned 1AM.
I'm sure the dietary "purists" on this board would not agree with my diet or schedule, but hey, It works for me. And that's all that matters.
Experiment. Find something that works for you, and go from there. It's your journey- find a diet you can enjoy and live with, and go from there.
