Food Confused
I am very confused about what I am supposed to be taking in each day as far as calories, protein, etc.
I have been keeping a food journal and I seem to be taking in about 300 calories a day, and about 40 grams of protein a day. I am not sure if that is too much or too little. Lately I have been feeling a little lightheaded, so I wonder if my intake has anything to do with it. Another bypass friend told me I should be taking in 90 grams of protein a day, but with the limited quantity of food, I can't see how to get it in.
My surgeron and my nutritionist gave me very little to go by and my nutritionist gave me a big NO to protein bullets.
Anyone have any idea??
I was never given a calorie count, but from what i read on the boards, you go into starvation mode if you're too low....and 300 is very low. I think it should be kept from 800-1000 in order to lose. I rarely get to that. I was told to get my proteins to 90 mg daily. A few protein drinks made with milk will give me 60 and I try to squeeze in the rest with food. 64 oz is required by all surgeons.that's my weakest part......some days I can only take is half that amount.
Good luck, but check with your surgeon
This is weird my surgeon who is also shars told me 60 g of protein and 64oz of water. I get 69 g of protein just from my protein and 75oz of water from there as well. I don't know my calories but I know my protein is 90 calories per scoop so I get 270 calories just from that I think you are def not getting enough calories of protein in! I of course am not a surgeon so I would call them ASAP for some clarification. good luck to you! I also heard bullets are bad too! also are you taking your vitamins and B-12? You need that as well!
I don't think that all came out right! My protein drink is 23 g of protein and I do that 3 times a day I put it in 20 oz of water and 3 oz of OJ so I also get 75 oz of water a day there. Then I get more protein with my meals and I will drink water when I am thirsty. this is working out awesome for me. Just keep working at it and you will find your groove too!

What about whey protein? I put unjury unfavored in my pudding, I'm getting about 600 calories, my NUT didn't say to worry about calories at this point, she said 6 small meals a day,
here's my typical day:
8AM - low fat string cheese, slice of lowfat turkey breast
8:30-8:55 sip...sip...sip water
9AM - vitamins more water
10AM - a coulple of wheat crackers with either peanut butter or cheese
10-12 sip...sip...sip water
12:00 - chili or refried beans with cheese
1:00 - 3:00 sip..sip...sip water
3:00 low fat string cheese a couple of almonds
3:30-5:30 sip...sip...sip
6:00 a couple of ounces of fish or shrimp or tuna or chicken salad and steamed veg.
7:00 sip...sip...sip...water - vitamins
8:00 protein pudding
that's pretty typical of what my day is
i'm having the same problem. I'm probably getting about 500 calories a day if I'm lucky and I don't know how much protein. I was told 50-60 grams a day, but I know I'm not getting that much. half of my problem is that I'm not hungry, I don't even get dizzy or anything when I haven't eaten. I know all about starvation mode, that's what caused me to gain so much, I wouldn't eat for a long time, but when I did, I just kept everything as fat and I have almost no metabolism.
I wasn't told to count calories, but I need to get 80 grams of protien a day. My usual day is:
Cottage Cheese for breakfast - 15 grams (some time I mix in a small handful of cheerios)
Protien drink for snack -30 grams
Tuna Fish and 4 crackers lunch - 21 grams
Protien bar snack- 20 grams
Chicken, fish or turkey for dinner - 15-23 grams (tonights dinner spaghetti - 1/3 cup of angel hair pasta, 1/3 cups ground turkey & sauce, and 1 tsp parmesan cheese)
Also I am eating 1/2 cup to just over 1/2 cup when I do eat.
I do have a hard time getting in my 64oz of water lately, but my doctor said as long as I am always sipping. I do walk 30 - 45 mins daily and when I get back I drink 8 oz of gadorade to get my electrolytes back up.
Hope that helps. Best of Luck!
