Baptism by pizza....
Tonight was my baptism by pizza. The wife usually grabs a Little Caesar's after grocery shopping so she doesn't have to cook. I was planning on eating my usual beans and ground beef, but with the smell of pizza in the air, I thought I'd give it a try. I went on calorieking.com and figured out if it fit my nutritional needs for the day, and to see how many ounces each piece was.
One piece of cheese pizza from LC's was 3.6oz, and 3/4 of a piece of crazy bread was another 1.4oz. With informed consideration in hand I delved into the first piece of pizza since surgery. It was pretty good, but not great. I ate very slowly, and focused on getting the cheese part of the pizza down before eating the bread part. I was able to eat the whole meal without any "backups", but just a few minutes after eating I felt that usual "glad I stopped when I did" feeling.
Total meal numbers:
Calories 268
Carbs 36.2g
Protein 12.2g
Fiber 3g
Fat 8g
So, not bad on the calories, but carbs were a new record for post-op meals. Only 12g of protein, so eating this once and a while is ok, but I usually aim for 20g of protein per meal. I was suprized how little fat was actually in these items - only 8g for the whole meal.
In retrospect, before surgery I'd easily put away 4-6 pieces of pizza without trouble, so going from being able to eat over 1000 calories, 32g of fat down to eating 268 calories and 8g of fat is quite an improvement!
To sum up, while pizza sounds like a great idea when you haven't had it in a long time, it doesn't live up to the hype when I actually tried it. I'd much rather have some interesting meat and beans concoction my wife's been coming up with lately.
I had pizza at the wedding I was in on Sat. don't ask me, I didn't plan the menu for that one. but I don't plan on doing that again. However I do make a crustless pizza in a skillet. I go the recipe off the recipe forum here. I did know the nutrition info on that, but can't recall it right now. It's just melted cheese (low fat) with some pizza sauce and a little turkey pepperoni on it.
