Do we HAVE to take the chewable calcium? Are we allowed to take the pill form? Is anyone doing the pills and not the chewable??

Calcium is generally hard on the stomach in pill form - chewables make it easier to pass through our new pouch's outlet and into the gut for it to be absorbed. Stick with the chewables. However, my dietician has me taking Citracal Creamy Bites (they come in chocolate and lemon creme) - 2 per day. Something about calcium citrate being better for post op folks.

Thank you, I've been hearing a lot about the Citracal, may look into it!

Been taking the calcium pills twice a day since 4 days after surgery.......never had a problem with stomach upset from them. I do sip on a hot drink when I take my meds. This helps them dissolve quickly.

I did pills from the get go but recently started doing a chewable everyday in addition to my pills. I was taking 3 calcium pills a day, but now just 2 and a chewable. Allie

I take the liquid calcium. It tastes pretty good and is easier for me than the chewables I tried before. Hillary

I purchased the pill form and without thinking about how big the pill was I popped one in .. oouch!!! That was the first thing that seemed to be just stuck in one place. Tried to sip water to help dissolve the pill and the water just backed up (and out) After about 15 minutes I finally got relief. Now I have chewables (and there a treat)!. So my question is .... when should I try the pill form again?

I take chewables, I was taking tums but have switched to generic viactive, I take them for my multi vitamin too. but the yahoo gastric bypass group has been having a discussion about calcium carbonate causing stones. I'm going to ask my doc about it on my next visit.
