New to board...concerned w/ stall
Ok so the scale hasn't moved much in the last 2 weeks. I know I should expect plateaus, and my body is still trying to figure out what the hell I just did to it, but come on! It's only been 5 weeks and the scales hasn't moved in over 2 weeks!!!! I've tracked my calories/protein per day and I'm getting in about 700 cal & 60 g of protein (which is within range per my program) and I'm trying to walk as much as possible....I just don't get it. I'm really getting frustrated now. What can I do to pick up the pace?
(As you can tell I'm not a very patient person! oh and I know it didn't show up overnight, so it's not going away overnight either...just thought it would be a little faster than it is)
Just wanted to see if others who had their surgery around the same time experienced this too, & how did you get through it.....because it is really frustrating.
Hi Rebecca,
I hap Lap RNY on April 9 and you sound exactly like me i just got off a 2 week plateu today i finally lost 3 pounds. I spoke to my Dr. yesterday and he said that you usually don't hit a real plateu until at least 7 mos so this is just your body in shock. Your doing everything right keep up the good work and your scale will move again trust me.
hugs
Lori
Hi Rebecca,
I had surgery the day after you did, and the first 4 weeks I lost so much so fast, but this last week has been a stall. It's to be expected and will happen again and for longer periods of time. Any long-term weight loss has stalls and plateaus. That is why measuring yourself is important. You will see inches lost even when you don't see the scale move.
Speaking of scales, do you weigh every day or once a week? I'm guilty of daily weigh-ins, and must stop that RIGHT NOW, lol. It's not a great habit and can be really self-defeating because it makes you frustrated like we are now.
If you measured yourself before surgery, try doing it again now that you are five weeks out and see how you did. Are you wearing a smaller size yet? Do you FEEL better, because really, that's the more important bit, not what the numbers on a scale tell you.
Hang in there, you aren't alone
Inky

I had open RNY 4/6/07. When the scale stalled, I checked my calories, protien, notes from Dr. literature from NUT and even looked back on the notes I took before surgery from people on the board. I finally realized I needed to increase my water ( liquids). BINGO....on the 2nd day....the scale moved! I am not as patient as you, my scale stalled for a week and I knew something was wrong. I try to get in at least 64oz. of liquid a day, any more is just a bonus!
Hope this helps and DO NOT WEIGH EVERYDAY!!!!!
Huggs,
Rhonda T.
****Soon I will be a new person BUT I will always be a child of God***
I am with u on this Plateau part I went into it right away and been there for 5 weeks infact I gained a few pounds according to the doctor. I have had some major set backs one with my fill cannot be done so being refered to radiologst for it and 10 k for a fill very expensive way to go and the weight gain. But the doctor sat down and told me i have the smallest band they make on and it was very very lose due to fact i had a hiatial hernia and my stomach was inside my esphogus and it was cramped down. He told me Most people have restriction right away but I did not and he said u r lucky u r not gaining all the weight back .. I have no restriction so there for what i am losing is from my efforts not the efforts of my lap band so I felt some what better.. but I fight the feeling of being a failure .. But at least I will have a better fill then if the doctor did because the radilogist can fill tell he sees a trickle going out of my stomach where as when he fills it he is doing it in the blind and hopes it is enough
Well upside can eat anything this weekend down side not really a down side my honeymoon will be over and it is back to restriction next week.
I'm kind of in a stall myself, in fact the scale seems to be going up and down right now. but I think I'm losing inches, I can't really tell, my clothes do fit looser, but I bought them fairly loose, so I don't really notice. other ppl tell me that they can tell. as far as feeling better, i feel exactly the same as I did a year ago at 310, other than having more energy. i need to put my scale away again, it is hard not to get on it. i also think I retain fluids, even though i'm getting in all my 64 oz. my one leg is swollen, it has done that off and on for a long time, but now really won't go away. i go see my doc in august so i'll see what the problem is
I had my surgery April 16th and hadn't been on a scale since my one month follow up on May 16th. I had lost 39 lbs. and was down to 311.
Well I just found out we have a digital scale here at work in our weight room so just 30 minutes ago I went to weigh - figured it's been over 2 weeks since I've been on a scale I'll have to have lost.
WRONG - it's still sitting on 311. . I was so bummed.
I'm glad I saw this post - it's made me feel a LOT better.
Wynette - we had surgery the same day and I feel a lot like you are describing. People have told me they are seeing my weight loss but I can't tell. My clothes are a little looser but I haven't really changed sizes yet.
Oh well - back to the pool today for more of a work out. It's been since Sunday since I've been able to get in a good swim so hopefully that will help.
I had surgery on the same day as you, and if you read my profile, you'll see that you are NOT alone! I've had two stalls so far, each one week. My doc told me to get more "core" proteins (chix, turkey, fish) and less soft ones (cheese, yogurts, beans, etc.) and if I am on a treadmill, then try the intervals (4 mins flat, 4 mins hills) back and forth. I was not on a treadmill, but did the same on my elliptical and lost a bunch of weight in 3 days, then stalled again!
I'm on a plateau right now too, but I know that's because I haven't been drinking enough water and I'm eating too many carbs (fruits and veggies - I MISSED them over the last 5 weeks).
Good luck. Keep me posted and we'll support each other through the ups and downs.
