I had my surgery on 4/30. I am in soft solid phase. I don't feel my doctor gave me enought information about what exactly what is a soft solid. They gave me a very small list of things I can have, but I am getting really bored with the same stuff every day. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Kimberly, I also has my surgery on 4/30 and its been tough. I can eat basically anything that i can make soft...... cereal, oatmeal, grits, soups, cheese, fruit, chili, baked potato, south beach protein bars, i even started to drink gatorade. I must admit i can only take like 3 bites when i eat then i am full and i am having a hard time getting in all my fluids and protein but i guess in time it will get better... i hope this helps

Experiment. Just remember all things in moderation. Take a couple of bites, and then wait a few minutes. If everything settles o.k., try a couple more. Works for me. DD

My doc prescribed soft protiens the first month. THis includes chicken, turkey, seafood, eggs, etc. No beef or pork though. We also aren't allowed to have any starches/carbs until 4 months out I think... AFter the one month followup, we were allowed to have fruit..wahooo! So yeah, it does get boring after awhile. If you check out the biggestloser.com board, there are a bunch of low cal recipes that you can try. My personal favorite it turkey chili....yummy!

Try heating up some refried beans, add a little sour cream & shredded chedar cheese to it.... yum! This has become one of my favorite things to eat... and it's high in protein too! I also made sugar free pudding which had protein in it from the milk. Cottage cheese is another favorite and I mixed a little sugar free jelly in it. Tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, even potato salad all made with lite mayo and mashed up or blended are really good too! It does get boring eating nothing but soft foods but hang in there because soon enough you'll move into the next phase. Good luck! Cheers!

Kimberly, I also had surgery on 4/30. My usual day goes as follows: 1/2 bullet before shower; 1 Achievone moca; lunch will be tuna salad (tuna, egg, lite mayo, SF relish) or some kind of seafood salad made same way with shrimp, crab, etc.; afternoon snack achievone; dinner will be some type of omlet, quiche, chili or tuna/seafood salad then 1/2 bullet before bed. Total protein: 102; approximate calories 750-850. I am one of the fortunate ones who doesn't have trouble with water, etc. I was told to TRY to eat at least two meals to keep the stoma from closing, just be sure to chew at least thirty times each mouthful. Hope this helps Wanda

What's a bullet? After reading everyone's posts, I don't think I am taking in enough calories or protein a day. Anyone how how many calories and protein are normal a day? My first surgical visit since my surgery is this coming Thurday, May 31. On that appointment I also meet with the nutritionist. Hopefully she can point me in a good direction.

The bullet I refer to is the IDS 3 oz 42g of protein bullet. It's not the best tasting thing in the world but I simply take it like medicine. Usually 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. My surgeon said have some kind or protein at night to get you through to the next day. He recommended 80-100g protein a day and 80-100oz water or other fluid. That includes decaf coffee (I use SF Davinci syrup ---umm) and crystal ligh****er. He also told me that my target calories were 800-1000 which I haven't reached yet and really don't expect to any time soon. I'm not going to worry as long as I can get the protein in so my hair won't fall out Wanda
