A Protein Success (finally!)

I've probably spent over $100 on different protein drinks to no avail. Isopure pre-mixed - GROSS! The Bariatriceating.com variety pack - good value but nothing I liked. Whey protein from GNC - ick. And a protein powder from my doctor's office - urgh. I did like the Profect bullets, but not enough to reorder them, they are pretty sweet, and not cost effective. Though at this point I was getting desperate. A bit of google-fu later and I found that there are SOY protein powders available. I love soy products - I even prefer soy butter to peanut butter, and tofu has always been a favorite. So I schlepped myself to GNC and they have a Soy Protein 95 powder available. It does come in flavors, but I opted for the unflavored variety. 25 grams of protein per scoop and zero carbs, 120 calories (when mixed with water). I took two home as it was BOGO 50% off, and used my 20% gold card - so two pounds came to approx $25, and if you tape your receipt to the bottom of the contain, you won't lose it when you have to return it if it sucks Anyway, once home I hesitantly opened the container and took a whiff. What, no funky bad milk smell? No smell at all (and believe me, my nose has been uber sensitive since surgery!). I took a taste - what?? no taste. I made a drink - water, powder, 1/2 tsp instant decaf, 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 splenda, 1/2 tsp vanilla and some ice. dang, i can actually drink this bad boy. I wouldn't say i LOVE it - I really don't like protein drinks/shakes, but I can certainly tolerate it and up my protein again, since the whey products completely gross me out. So, for anyone else stuck on bad protein island, maybe this will help? Inky

I sure am glad you found this protein source. I have both whey and soy in my kitchen but since my pouch revolt I cannot do a shake of ANY kind now. I mix up and small package of SF pudding, add the 2 cups milk, also add 1/2 cup NF dry milk and a scoop of vanilla protein powder. IT has 15 grams of protein per serving and has a very full rich flavor-no aftertaste. As for the nose, what is up with that? I can smell things no one else can. It is so sensitive that I have to not inhale when I open the can of protein powder. If I get a whiff, it's over. Just nother thing I never heard about before surgery-and I thought I had thoroughly researched everything out. ;)

Glad to hear it, Inkster. Myself, I love the Isopure whey concentrate Vanilla, it's killa! I mix a scoop with 4 ice cubes, 1 small banana, and 4 oz. of skim milk and blend it to frothy perfection. They go down smoooooth. I'm half tempted to throw in a shot of Captain Morgons and call it a party. I look forward to my shakes twice a day. DD
