I am 4 weeks post-op and i am having a real hard time getting in the 64oz of fluid per day. i am probably getting around 30oz in. Is anybody else having trouble? I just don't want to drink and when i do no matter how big or small of a sip i take i get the huge air bubble in my chest.....

I sweat to God it sounds like I posted this post! You are speaking for me totally. I'm not too worried about it as long as I continue to pee frequently, I figure I can't be dehydrated if I'm peeing. Hopefully in time it will come, but what to do about those damn air bubbles getting caught in our chest? I've done everything I can think of, put liquid in my mouth and then exhaled through my nose thinking I was swallowing excess air, but it still happens! I'm hoping it too will pass. Good luck to you!

Sounds like me too, sometimes I can get like 40-50 in. I try to get as much in before or after work because I can't really drink much during. But I don't know what I'll do when I'm working like 10 hr shifts again or when I finally get a second job. I've been drinking my protein stuff to try to help up my fluids and protien. My doc said to try to stop drinking it but right now I almost have too. I also drink the light and fit smoothies, I count them as a fluid but don't know if that really counts or not.

I had the same problem with air, I started taking gas-X strips and that released the trapped gas and it made drinking much easier. I still struggle with getting enough fluid in but I am working at that. Roz

I do manage to get in the 64 oz - but always in Crystal Light form. I don't know if that's bad, but for some reason plain water is too heavy for me right now. CL is just right. I have it by the jug at home and I have the on-the-go packets to add to bottles of water at work. Really helped.

Some days I meet the requirement but it's a struggle. Most times I'm falling a bit short. I figured it will get easier over time and as long as I'm not dehydrating and striving to meet my goal I'm doing well (as long as it's the best I can do that's all I ask for)

I am just now at 7 weeks able to get in 70oz or so a day! It takes some time to get to a point where you get it all in. After talking to my Dr's office I was given the ok to drink with a straw and that as funny as it sounds helped! If I drink it from the glass or bottle it goes in like a lump with the straw it is all good! Lots of luck to you all!

Well, I've been drinking through a straw since my surgery and I've never had a problem with the straw... it actually seemed to go down easier. Funny thing is they tell you not to drink from a straw...oh well it has always worked for me. I don't get the full 64oz. in either but I get at least 48oz to 54oz in each day. I watched the Oprah show when Dr. Ozz was on and he said you are getting in enough liquids if you can read through the color of your urine. Another words when you pee it should be very light in color almost clear... so you can read through it. Mine is almost clear or very faint yellow in color so I know I'm getting plenty of liquids in my body. Also, try not to drink straigh****er that can be hard on the new pouch for some reason. Add a teaspoon of sugar free ice tea or drink SF crystal lite. Cheers! Lisa
