I am beginning to feel like I am losing it. Besides becoming tired of the full liquid diet, I can't tell when I am full, When I am hungry, when to stop drinking, or if I am drinking too fast. I discovered cream of chicken soup and mixed it with protein powder and lactaid milk. I ate only the recommended 8oz and then I think I was full for the rest of the day so I was afraid to drink anything else. I am becoming neurotic about busting my staples and gastric leaks. I am also scared to sleep on my left side because I have thoughts of my intestines getting tangled and becoming impacted. I know this all sounds crazy. I am just determined to dothe right thing this time. Am i drinking too fast if it doesn'nt take me 30 minutes to drink my meal? HELP!!!!!

Tracey, You need to relax and listen to your body. Trust me, if you drink too fast, you will know it. It makes my stomach and chest hurt if I drink too fast. I am 4 weeks post op and I can drink about 6-8 oz in an hr if I sip it. I dont feel hungry either, but I know I have to eat. So I schedule 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and eat if I am hungry or not. I dont know how far post op you are, but you shouldnt be afraid to sleep on your left side or drink because you think you are going to mess something up. You NEED to drink. As long as you sip and not gulp, you should be fine. My dr told me that it should not take me more than 20 minutes to eat or drink my meals. I hope that helps Cindy

Some people don't feel when they are full right at the beginning. Our insides still kind of need to "wake up" a little after surgery. When I eat cream of chicken, I only eat 3 oz. of it..........I treat it like a regular "meal". I only eat 3oz. at a time period. Now for drinks, I drink my milk, carnation instant breakfast and juice in 8 oz. increments and I can get em down in like 5-10 minutes. Fluids will go down faster at this point so if it doesn't take you 30 minutes to drink your soup.........you are OK!! It should probably take you more like 15 or 20. It's when you get to the soft stage that you want to take longer to eat because you really have to chew, chew, chew!! You're fine. You won't bust anything. Just relax, follow your plan and lose lose lose!! Allie
