Hi all, surgery was on 16th, bowels haven't moved today or yesterday. Trouble is all is closed over the holidays. Do I really need to go to emergency room at hospital or is this normal?

Has your MD given you approval to take any over the counter meds to help you go? My MD said to take Milk of Magnesia and if that didn't work to call his office. You might look through your paperwork. Two days is not that bad, I have seen some people's Surgeons allow them to go weeks without bowel movements, but after 3-4 days I start getting concerned myself.

Hi Lori My MD hasn't given me anything like that. I had surgery in India and I live in Hong Kong. I'll email the sureon and then go to see my normal doc if nothing happens after today. Thanks for your reply.

I have had the same trouble Susan. If I dont go, on the 3rd day, I add 1 tbsp of Milk of magnesia to my protein shake. Only because I cannot stand the taste of it and the protein shake masks the tastes..........lol What holiday is it that everything is closed??

Hi Cindy It's May Day, the joys of living in a Communist Country. Actually I wish I could go down and see the celebrations but can't face the crowds. I think I'll stick to jus****ching telly and doing a walk or two. Thanks for the answer. I'm battling a bit to get protein shakes at the moment too.

my release paperwork said not to worry unless it's more than 5 days then to call my surgeon. Cafeful with going to the emergency room as they usually don't know alot about our surgery and what is normal or not. I would suggest calling your surgeon, even if their office is closed they can be reach by pager or cell phone, I know my dr can 24hrs a day. lol jen

I'm only having a movement every 2 or 3 days. My PCP tell's me it's normal. Less in = less out. DD

I finally had my BM yesterday and my surgery was april 18 and it was not much due to fact i'm not eating only drinking protien .. I took milk of magnesia to help me ... it was not much but oh how I feel so much better .. I figured 12 days with out one I better have one.. But also before surgery i was pretty cleaned out .. My hubby had a RNY and that is what he used milk of magnesia as well but seems he has to use a daily fiber therpy now since he is only able to eat 2 oz of food still and he had surgery aug 29 06... he is not able to eat meats still. Question for u ? r u saying u have not had BM since surgery? Be well Lisa

Hi Lisa I was doing fine on the diluted fruit juice. But now that I've moved over to protien, mashed tato and lentils...nothing. Just a feeling of "full". At the same I'm I've also started swallowing my tablets. I hope nothing is gummed up somewhere along the line.
