Everyone getting their protein in? Right now I'm supposed to be shooting for 50g per day. It is HARD but so far I've either hit it or come pretty darn close. Tonight I am having a little bit of a headache and feel a little dehydrated so I'm sipping on water. How is everyone else feeling and are you getting your protein? Feel free to share any tips you may have!

Hi Amber, I have seen several times under this topic, that when u r newly post-op to not worry about the protein. Its more important to heal with the ice chips, water, broth, sf popsicles, etc. I am having my lapband on Mon 4/23, so i hope I too can remember this advise. Your body has been thru major surgery & just wants to rest. Hope this helps. Everyone goes thru this stage right after surgery.

I'm not even coming close to getting in my protein. Every protein drink or suppliment I mix up makes me want to gag. So, I'm just trying to keep getting my water down. I'm just waiting until Thursday when I go back to my dr for post-op and I can start eating pureed foods and won't have to do protein suppliments anymore. woohooo

Yesterday was the first day I met my protein recommendations. Doing good with the water and the walking. I want something I can sink my teeth into. The thought of more broth or another shake makes me want to gack! Wednesday, I'm trying scrambled eggs. If I ralph, so be it. I need food. DD

So far I am no good at this protein thing - the shakes that I have tried (which I liked a week ago) just make me want to puke now. For my other liquids I have been eating strained creamy clam chowder and little pieces of clam slip through the strainer so I am hoping that that little bit of protein will help. I suck at the shakes.

Hi, I am 20 days post op and still having trouble getting in the protein and fluids. Some days come easier than others and I am finding that the more pureed or semi solids I eat the less fluid I can get in...it is a balancing act. I have found the Champion Whey powder (comes in a lot of flavors, avail at Vitamin SHoppe or you can get a sample of each flavor online) for my main source of protein right now. I am still trying to find a good tasteless protein to add to my clear drinks/soups. The protein whey powder (Vitamin shoppe brand) I have does fine to add to thick creamy stuff but not the clear stuff. I wouldn't rec the Vit Shoppes' tasteless whey for anything else since it isn't too tasteless. I also drink Smart Forme premixed chocolate or vanilla shake during the day at work since it is easy (premade) and doesn't taste like protein. My doc wanted me to get in 90 grams protein/day...which is crazy because I am 5'2" and 202#...when I stopped trying to get in 90 grams protein/day, I actually found my protein intake increased! Keep on plugging away at it...every day should get a little easier. Dianne

Hey you guys, I'm almost 7 months post-op and don't have a problem getting my protein in at all. Go to GNC and get some ISOPURE clear liquids. A 20 ounce bottle has 40 grams of protein. I drink about 1 1/2 a day and that gets my protein in. I also drink Yoplait Light Smoothies for breakfast and there's another 6-8. I eat turkey bacon, there's a few more.Yoplait Light yogurt is a good snack and is full of protein. Granted the ISOPURE is not that great tasting in the beginning but you get used to it. Just get it really cold and then pour it over ice. The only drawback is that it's $3.75 per bottle but hey! I'm not having to buy an entire lunch so it equals out. If I do buy lunch, it lasts me 4 days! Just read your labels. protein is easy to find.

Is Anyone else having trouble with cold drinks/foods causing your pouch to hurt/spasm? I am having a heck of a time with this and it is causing me to not want to drink the protein drinks (because they are usually cold.) Pureed foods are still tough and after 1 or 2 small bites I am uncomfortably filled to my eyeballs for about 2 hrs. Anyone have suggestions for warm protein drinks?
