FMLA STD=Confusion
OMG. I am so frustrated and overwhelmed with something that should be so easy. I have got about a hundred things to do to get my FMLA and Short Term Disabilty. Its freaking crazy. All of the click here's and so and so sign this. I just want to puke from all of this. Wish me luck. Surgery is about two weeks away and I want this stuff to go smooth. Why do they make people wait until two weeks before hand to start this crap!
Thanks
Amanda
I don't understand who made you wait to start it. I turned mine in over a month ago. I don't knwo what your specific questions are, but FMLA is basically the law that guarantees you up to 12 weeks to take care of yourself or a qualified family member due to medical rasons. It guarantees your job for that period of time. Short term disability is offered through the benefits at your company and usually doesn't kick in until after the 14th calendar day after your initial absence, so you will get paid at the STD rate (usually a % of pay, maybe 40% - 70%) for any work days that you miss after the 1st 14 that you are out. In my case, my FMLA is filed for 4 weeks and my STD is filed for 2 weeks (the two that occur after my first 14 days out of work).
I hope this helps. It is a huge pain, and it's a bummer that they made you wait. That's just uneccessary.
