I had my surgury on April the 4th........Everything seems to be going ok......But I can't get my protein shakes in me. I told the doctor yesterday before I left to come home......Back to ontario and he said you have to get them in........So I tried again today. I drank about half of one and became very sick....I even started to get a temp. What else is there out there that I can take......Is there a juice or a pill or something......Shelley

The shakes were too thick for me too after surgery. I never got sick from them but I just didn't like them. I picked up ISOPURE no carb drinks. It looks like a juice, you can find them at GNC. I love the Alpine Punch & Mango Peach. These drinks are great becuase they have 40g of protein, 0 carbs, and I think only 60-100 calories. These are really easy for me to get in. I had my surgery April 5th. Hope this helps a little bit...best of luck to you.

I also use isopure... they are not to sweet and taste like koolaid but not as strong. i just got me a case of grape frost and boy is it yummy... pour it over crush ice and its very good. I also like the icy orange. and the mago and punch and i just got pinappple bannana. any way try those. the lady at the GNC store, gave me a box of muscle milk and it was awful., to sweet and when u drinked it was thick and lumps was with it. so to me those r nasty.. i also use akins advantage protein and both the chocolate and vanilla is yummy.. so i am pretty safisfed with the proteins i chose. and i just got 3 boxes of sugaer free popcylces. and cartnation instand breakfast sugar free... and tons of water... s o i am set to go this wednesday.... take care and hugss to everyone glendalee

I don't like thick shakes now pre-surgery, so I am not sure how I will feel post-surgery, and just in case, I got a few bottles of isopure in the fridge! I also ordered some samples of the Profect shots (I think they were four for $12 at http://profect.com/) and they have 25 grams of protein in a 2.9 ounce vial. I've heard they are pretty good, sort of like liquid jello, and I plan to make a "snow cone" and pour it over to eat/sip it. My sister-in-law got her protein in that way after her RNY and it didn't taste too bad. I also found (but have not tried) the New Whey protein bullets at 42 grams to 3 ounces, available here http://store.bariatriceating.com/conewwhlipr.html I have also been told by the nutritionist and other WLS post-ops that at first it is very difficult to get in your protein, and they suggested unflavored protein powder in broth, water, jello, cottage cheese, whatever you're eating. I've also heard it's important not to have more than 20-30 grams or so at a time because you just can't absorb it all and then you're just wasting it. That's a question I plan to ask the dietitian on my post-surgery visit May 1st. Oh, and the nutritionist I saw also suggested adding non-fat powdered milk to cream soups and such to add protein and calcium. So there you have my .02, and I hope you find one you like. get samples if you can so you don't have to spend oodles of money! Inky

Inky, Thanks for the good tips on protein sources. I just realized I have put off buying my supplies for way too long. I'm scheduled for the 23rd and have only bought one box of Carnation Instant Breakfast so far!!!Been too busy having my " last supper", ok last suppers, I think I've had about 10 so far!! I made a list from some of your suggestions and am heading off to get my supplies after work tomorrow! Time to get this show on the road..... Sharon

I bought isopure 12 bottles loved before surgery now they make me sick. I also bought carnation instant mixed with skim milk and got sick from that I am now lactose intolerant so I am limited to what I can have. I did get the designer whey choclate and it is reaaly sweet but 2 scoops in 8 oz ice cold water and I get 32 grams. right now that is all I am getting protien through 2 shakes and lots of water. good luck to you. remeber taste buds change after surgery!
