Trip to Emerg last night ...
I woke up at 10:30pm feeling that I had swollowed a gumball whole, and to make matters worse this gumball was ON FIRE!!
I sipped on some water, got a 1/2 cup of milk and even tried antacids ... nothing worked. It was when my left arm started getting numb that I started to panic. I called the Health Link line and spoke with a nurse, because the pain was getting worse she told me to go the ER.
I popped 2 T3's and away we went. When the doctor got there and did his assesment it turned out that it was the carbon dioxide that was used in the surgery to fill up my abdomen so they could get to where they needed to. Basically everything is pushed up (like when you are pregnant) only way to relieve this terrible pain is to let the gas become abosrbed into my skin. The pain could last up to 5 weeks ... 5 WEEKS!!
So, I have been using my heating pad trying to relieve the pain ... but that isn't going so great either.
Crystal had mentioned taking Gas-x ... I thought that I would be cured ... but the doc said "no can do". Has to be absorbed into the skin. Though thanks so much Crystal for the hint.
The troubles of laprascopic surgery.
The great news is since April 10 I am down 7 pounds!
I can't wait for everyone to make it over here and share their exciting weight loss accomplishments!
Whooooo hooooooo!
Later losers ... hee hee
Even though this is not something I would want to go through I am glad that I have found this site and so many wonderful people to find out what everyone else is going through before and after surgery.
My surgery is the 19th and I am reading all that I can.....not to scare me away but to get as informed as possible.
Take care....Marcy
Hey loser!!
Sorry your gas was so bad, but thank you for posting about it!! Us folks coming up, we can use all the info we can get our hands on!!
I know that gas part can be really terrible, I remember that from another laprascopic procedure I had.
keep walking and moving around and help that metabolize itself away!!
Inky
Hey Monique. I have been feeling the exact same way. Tried Gas Strips, Heating Pad, and Pain pills. I had always read not to take aleeve but when I called to ask they said it was ok for me to take it.???? Know anything about that? -- Hope u get to feeling better real soon. I don't feel like I have lost anything and my surgery was April 9th. Hopefully I have. Patience. M.Y.
M,
Girl this may sound morbid - but I am glad that I am not the only one suffering with these gas pains!
I haven't heard anything about taking Aleeve, but damn girl there has to be something that can help ease this pain. I wi**** was as easy as just ... ahem ... "fluffing" LOL but having this gas in our abdomin cavity is worse than anything I have ever felt.
It's funny really in that there is no pain from the wound sites ... lol ... but it is the aftermath of the gas that is causing all the issues ... ugh, what's with that?
I am sure that you have lost some weight, I have no doubt. How can we not?
How are you doing with the post op liquid diet? I was told to have 80 grams of protein a day ... umm that's been really hard for me, so I started with the ensure drinks .... mmmmmm butter pecan. hee hee.
Anything else to report? Are you healing well? Are you able to sleep comfortably? Are you milking it? hee hee ... I am for as long as I can baby!
I wish you a speedy recovery darlin!
Later losers ....
Monique
