I was worried about that also, and I did not have any problems...They give you alot more for this surgery than they do for others...Before surgery they gave me something to drink that neutralized the stomach acids. then they gave me something in my IV...And when I woke up they gave me more in my IV....I did have a sick stomach after surgery but not too bad....hope that helped......

Hi Lisa, I went through the same problems you've had with past surguries. I always woke up violently ill from the anesthesia. (I never new it was possible to heave that much flat on your back & half unconscious..lol) Anyway...I just had lap RNY on April 10th. I had a small bout of the dry heaves afterward but don't really remember it clearly. My big thing was that I had a morphine drip that could activate every 8 minutes for pain. It made me nauseous to the point that I was afraid to take it because I REALLY did not want to throw up. My doc was great though - he gave me Reglan for the nausea every 6 hours whether I needed or not while I was on the pain meds (even a liquid to take home). He said the most important thing was that I wasn't in pain because all that would do was slow my recovery. So don't be afraid to ask for help - it's only going to help you. Good luck! Chari

I did have a case of the dry heaves after surgery. I remember trying to throw up in recovery and again once I was in my room. They were quick to shoot some anti-nausea drugs into my IV so it didn't last very long, thank goodness! Just remember that it's your right to ask for any kind of medication you think you need to help you get better, including anti-nausea. Don't let them tell you it will "go away". Anna
