I have heard a lot about the hair loss that happens with this surgery because of lack of protein along with other things. Does anyone know what product I need to buy to help keep that under control? Someone told me before and I forgot the name of it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Rogaine but I will buy that if it will help. My hair is already unthick-not thin-thin but not thick. I really can't afford to lose any

Hi Stacie, My dr told me that it happens sometimes even though you get enough protein. He said the rapid weight loss throws your body into shock and sometimes you just loss your hair. But it does come back. His advice to me was to just get in all my protein and drink my water and mother nature will take care of the rest. I dont know of any medication to prevent it, sorry. Cindy

Yep, I've heard it's pretty much a done deal and there's nothing we can do to avoid it. I've often thought of pre-natal vitamins or something like that since women who take them usually have increased hair and nail growth. I never followed up on it and asked anyone about it. We'll all just be shedding together Michele

thanks for the tips everyone. someone just referred me to Nioxin- i've heard it works great. i'm going to order a starter kit and see if i like it. you can find it at www.shampoo4you.com and just look for Nioxin under the brand links. hope that helps anyone that has a hair scare like i do.

Someone told me to take Biotin suppliments and to use the Nioxin. Biotin often called vitamin H, is yet another B complex component. Biotin is a proven hair growth vitamin and a preventative to excessive hair loss. It appears to metabolise fatty acids. Fatty acids are a valuable growth factor in numerous processes in the body including the hair. Biotin is also seen as an aid in preventing hair turning grey. You can google Biotin or here's a link to the suppliment: http://www.thewayup.com/products/0085.cfm I would definately ask your doctor first before taking this suppliment. Make sure it's ok to take and won't interfere with your surgery in anyway. I think I'll just get a cute short trendy haircut instead and wait till it all grows back in!
