Post Op Liquid Diet Length of Time
Hi, I am 7 days postop lap rouxny gastric bypass. I am still on a liquid only diet per my surgeon as he suggests a full 2 weeks on the liquid protein 90 grams/day before going to pureed foods. It is driving me crazy to not be able to do anything pureed yet. Jello is ok and really feels better than just the shakes. They don't fill me up.
Other bariatric surgeons in our area goto pureed foods sooner. (ie, 3-4 days or 7 days post op.) While I think my surgeon is terrific and believe he knows his stuff...and of course I don't want to undermine my success, but I am still left wondering...what are your physicians telling you? How long do you have to be on the liquid protein diet post op? Also, how many grams protein do they require of you? other docs where doing 60 gm/day for women, but he rec 90. Thanks. :help:
I was on a liquid diet for 2 day before surgery and I am on it now till Thursday so I think that is 12 days now my dr said don't worry about protein drinks or anything like that right now till after you see me. I can't stomach broth and I have been living on 1 and 1/2 sugar free jello and water I can't tolerate sugar free Popsicles yet either. now my dr after this skips puree and goes to soft food. which is good because unlike most people i am hungry for something beside water and jello oh yea I can't drink crystal light yet either it gives me craps on my sides. my doc say after this I need at least 60 grams of protein a day oh and I had lap rny also
I am 9 days post op and still on the liquid diet. I was allowed ice cubes, jello, popsicles, and broth for the first 4 days post op. I am now on SF Carnation Instant Breakfast 3x's daily. I can still have jello and popsicles in between meals. Although I haven't had any problems, I am anxious to have some real food, pureed or not. I see my DR on the 17th, which I'm sure he will advance me to soft/pureed foods at that time. He also hasn't stipulated how many grams of protein i am suppose to get on a daily basis. I think it's too difficult at this stage, which is why he probably didn't mention it.
Hope this helps! Hang in there, believe me, I keep thinking if I have a little bite of something, nobody will notice, but then I remember, this isn't just about me losing weight anymore and cheating on a diet. Eating solid food before my Dr's ok could seriously damage me or make me incredibly uncomfortable. We're just going to have to tough it out. Remember, you are not alone!
Good Luck!
