Does anyone know about the chances of toning versus having to have plastic surgery if you exercise while you are losing weight? I really want to avoid having all that extra flab but would like to tone it myself instead of having plastic surgery. I tried to google it but am not finding anything that would reassure me that my plan to try to tone myself isn't one I will be doing in vain. Tips, advice, suggestions anyone??

I'm no expert but I have read on this board that it depends on age, skin elasticity, how long you have carried the weight as well as exercise. I am 55 and have been obese for so many years, I know plastic surgery is in my future! Besides I just don't like gyms, weights, or sweat!

As mentioned a lot depends on your skin. But toning exercises won't be in vain. There will be areas that will respond well. Some find they are able to tone their calves but not their thighs. Biceps tone better than triceps. You may be able to tone your back. The abdomen is another temperamental area. You may be able to tone the upper abs but not the lower. Much of this depends on where and how you carry your weight. My three trouble areas are going to be my inner thighs, lower abs and triceps. I know that I will definitely need a panniculectomy and will have a tummy tuck at that time. I am hoping to be able to tone my inner thighs and triceps. What you could find with a google search is a great number of toning exercises. Some of which you can begin to do now to become more familiar with them...that is what I am doing now...surgery is six days away! Cindy

you really have to exercise. cardio of course is essential, but toning is very important . everyone is different and it does depend on your weight, age, and skin elasticity. I am 30 but I have a lot of weight and a huge amount is in the lower belly(2 c sections) and upper thighs. I will need a tummy tuck without a doubt. I will however use lots of lotion to hopefully give the skin some elasticity. I am going to exercise everyday cardio even if it is just walking at first. I really want to tone I love lifting weights and right now I can do leg press at 490 lbs 1 rep of 12 I could do more but that was as much as the machine went. but being so big I am sure that is part of it. I want a very muscular body so I will have to kick it up big time!
