This past weekend the Indiana board went on an OH Campout in Middlebury, Indiana. It just happened that they were having a Summer Festival with a one mile race on Friday night, a 3K, 5K, and 10K on Saturday morning. Friday night's one mile race was the first time I had ever just done a mile race. Thought it would be fun. I was worried when I got my race number tho (see picture on profile). Thought maybe it was a warning. The biggest challenge was dodging horse manure on the streets (this is a large Amish community, lots of horse and buggies). In the 5K's I've been doing lately, I've been running about a 10 minute pace. To my pleasant surprise, I finished this race in 8:55, and on top of that, I won first place in my age group. My first ever win! On Saturday, I ran the 10K . As if it wasn't bad enough to do two races back to back, but a 10K (the first time I've run that far). I guess I should've taken my previous race number warning. At the four mile mark, I had such intense pain that I was forced to walk some as the pain worsened. I finished (and I wasn't last) with a time of 1:08:50. It appears that I pulled my groin muscles and it's painful to even walk. Luckily it's getting better day by day. Another experience that wouldn't have happened if not for WLS. I'm so thankful I decided to start a new life. Floyd

Julia, You're looking fantastic. Can you believe it's been 14 months already and so many changes in our lives. I know it felt good to climb that steep hill. Congratulations! Good to hear from you too. It's been so long since we've written. Floyd

Hi Everybody, I have not posted here since January. This is going to post with my picture from about a month out. I look a "little different" now. I'll get a picture soon. Anyway, the goal weight thing is on my mind as well. I have lost 160 pounds, but have 40 more to my goal of 175. According to doctor charts and the BMI calculator, my goal is 155, but I haven't weighed that since I was about 14 and 3 inches shorter. I will be ecstatic to just get under 200 and after 377 I think I may need to accept that as my goal. We'll see. It is a lot of work to lose weight these days. I work out 3 times a week and stick to 3 meals a day, nothing in between and no sugar. I go to OA three times a week and a therapist once a week. I am not complaining, though. I feel so blessed every day. I'll write some of the WOW benefits of my new life in another post. Thanks for bringing this up. Dotsie

Joan, it is amazing for all of us isn't it---I look back at my pictures from early on and it takes me back to what it was like physically, being super morbidly obese. I never want to go back there. I am positive I would be close to being in a wheelchair by now and very very unhappy. Looking back is good as it may bring back some bad memories but reinforces what I need to do to continue on as a healthy person. I generally look at profile of others and always look at the before. We have done wonderfully haven't we!! God has definitly been good to us all. Julia

Julia..I am sitting here in tears. You have been transformed. Even though we have been to each other on this board since before surgery, sometimes we forget where we have all come from. I looked at your before pic (only few days out) and then the now pic and I am in awe of what a miraculous change has taken place. When we are discouraged we need to look at the before and see how far we have come. You truly inspire me. And Girlfriend you are gorgeous inside and out! Your fellow sister in surgery, Joan

Thank you Sher, I could say the same for you. Losing any amount of weight is a big plus and we should all be proud of our accomplishments. Julia

Thanks Kathleen, You are doing good as well. The weight loss certainly slows down doesn't it. I was thinking I was 15 months out but it has only been 14 months. Yeh for all us April buddies.! I want to lose about 17 more then start to maintain and try for a tummy tuck and breast reduction next summer/fall. Julia

Jenn, hang in there. We all have certain expectations for ourselves. It may take some time for us to meet them. It can be a long journey, but one worth taking. Take care Sher Old digested blood could look black, also someone could bring up bile(greenish black) after a lot of vomiting.
