Topic: RE: Almost 4 years out
Hey! I will be 4 years out this month also. I JUST made goal last week I think it was? I swear for a good 2+ years I just fluctuated back and forth and then back in November I gained up to 190 and freaked out. So I TOTALLY went back to the basics and I made it to goal. Everyone keeps asking what I did. I've always been great at counting calories but I was eating badly so I changed it up and ate more healthy and often and viola! I have an email of the things that I do that I've sent to like 20 people I swear. Some are sticking to it and doing well (non are WLS patients but a diet is a diet). If you want I can send it to you. You CAN get there. You just have to STAY consistent and be totally diligent.
Congratulations at making it to 4 years and not have gaining it ALL back!

Topic: Panic time
Ok I'm having a hernia repair and abdominoplast(fluer de lys) on Wednesday and now it's panic time. How many live alone and don't really have any one to help? Do I really need someone?
I can get help from my 90 year old father, but he really wasn't that much help after my open RNY 3 years ago. Do I need him to com 170 miles to help? All of my close friends think that I need some family member here during the surgery. I have a friend who will come and stay at the hospital but won't come to my apartment. She can't do the stairs to my condo. Should I make arrangements for her to drive me to my father's home?
I really don't want him to come he's been through so much this summer, being the caregiver for my brother who died from lymphoma in August.
Anyone have any ideas?

Topic: RE: Finally Scheduled hernia repair and TT
Jeanne, I am so sorry to hear about your brother. Hang in there. Congrats on scheduling surgery and the hernia repair offers a good chance to do the abdominoplasty. Good luck and let us know how it goes. I had an abdominoplasty in April of 08 and this year, in March I had a breast lift and reduction. Boy do my shoulders and back thank me for that! I have put on about 10 to 12 pounds and keep working to get it back off. I know what I have to do, but just need to be consistant. Julia
Topic: Finally Scheduled hernia repair and TT
Well, I have finally scheduled my Hernia repair and abdominoplasty. I know I'm a lttle slow at this but I finally did it.
My surgery is scheduled for November 11th. I interviewd 3 plastic surgeons and have decided on one who has the qualfications to do both the hernia repair and the abdomnoplasty. I havn'r lost all of the weight but I have at least kept 80 lbs off for three years.
I do have to pay for the TT myself but the insurance will pay for the hernia repair. It's been a difficult year in my family. My brother diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2007, under went a stem cell transplant that was successful, however, the lymphoma was too aggressive. He lost his battle in August.
It was difficult for me as he lived with my 90 year old father, 170 miles from me. He became infected and was in iCU most of the month of April. I spent most of the summer going back and forth. Luckily I had lots of CTO time and bosses who were willing to let me work weekends for days off during the week. By the Fourth of July I knew it wouldn't be long as he had stopped eating. He couldn't undergo the strong chemo needed because he went into kidney failure, and his marrow just wouldn't recover from the additional chemo treatments.
Now it's time for me to spoil myself....

Topic: RE: HAPPY 3 YEARS FOR ME :)
Hello Friends.....it has been ages since I posted here. I feel healthy and happy. I started at 246 and lost to 151. I've gained some back...I weigh 166 now. Would like to get under 150 (my original goal) so I will have to get back to basics and quit eating the carbs and sweets that have crept back into my diet. (It is so easy for those old bad habits to reassert themselves.) Labs have been good, but iron a little low so I'm taking some extra to try to boost the numbers.
I hope all our April sisters (and brothers) are doing well. Would love to read updates from everyone!!

Thanks Julia,
I made it through yesterday, I had my protien drinks and for dinner a small salad with chicken. I am doing well so far today I just have to tell myself that I can do anything for a short period of time. I too am having problems with my Vit D, and am taking percription for it, it's coming up slowly.
I will drop this weight, I just have to focus.
take care, and talk to you soon.

Hi Stormy, We do need encouragement at this time don't we. I too, have gained some weight--about 10 to 12 pounds, enough to make all my clothes tight and some are too tight to wear. I have had a tummy tuck in April 2008 and a breast lift and reduction in March of this year. I have gained my weight since March of this year. I guess I thought I had it made at 3 years out and became lax in my eating plan. I know that I eat too many calories but am having trouble stopping it. I may have to join you with the 5 day protein!! I hope the iron you are taking continues to help as I would not relish the thought of IV iron injections but guess if I needed them I would take them. I have some trouble with maintaining Vit D but that was first noted during lab work pre-op bypass surgery. Hang in there and keep in touch. We can get back to our lowest weight if we work at it. Now is the time to deal with it. Julia

it's been a while since I have been on here... oh my the changes we've all be through in the last three years. I have to say that I've gained about 30 pounds back since my lowest weight and I'm trying to get a handle on that. I've started the liquid protein diet today and will do that for about three to five days... I'm hoping that will kick start me.
I've been really anemic (totally drained of energy) for the last year and have been doing everything the Dr's have said and it wasn't helping, just when I thought I was going to have to have the iron IV I started taking a plant based iron, it's called Hemi Plex, and my iron levels are coming up... almost to normal - I 'm feeling better and not so tired all the time. Hopefully that will help me to start exercising again.
If anyone wants to shoot me an email for encouragement that would be great!!! [email protected] I am so glad I had this procedure done and would do it again in a minute.
Take Care and Great Job!
