Topic: RE: Oddly enough - I've lost more than I weigh
Thanks, Kathleen! My secret is not really a secret. I exercise/walk a lot. Since I joined the gym at the end of July, with the exception of the two weeks I couldn't exercise because I damaged my retina, I have been walking 5 - 6 days a week, any where from 2 - 6 miles a day. If I do the gym, I do about 2.25 - 2.5 miles on the treadmill, the rowing machine and ab cruncher. I go before work and spend about 50 - 60 minutes there. On the days I don't go to the gym, I've been walking to work which is about 3 miles. As often as possible, I walk home which is another 3 miles and takes me just over an hour. I find it relaxing and a great stress reliever, especially good for helping me transition from work to my home. I'm one of those people who need and thrive on some alone time and the walking is a great time for me. It also helps me - I work on two websites and am on various committees for my sons' alma mater and I do a lot of letter composition. Sometimes I have it all thought out on my walk or on the treadmill and as soon as I get to work, I put it down on the pc. I've logged an estimate of the walking that I've been doing (mind you, this is not just walking around, I log the gym time, the walks back and forth to work, and any other long walks I take. Since I started logging the miles, I average 4.07 miles per day and since April 1st, my average is 5.36. As far as food, I probably take in about 1200 - 1500 calories, but since I walk so much, I'm sure I'm burning up part of it. I don't know how much more I'll lose. My pcp thinks I will lose more, and if I do, I'm fine with it, but I'm sure that my ramped up exercise is what is keeping me still losing. Except for some back aches and if I walk up hill, my knee will hurt, I feel better than I've felt in years. Enjoy the day! Sue

Thank you so much, Lizzie. I know sometimes it feels like I'm bragging, but I can't share with that many people *****ally understand what we've all gone through. So I thank you all who acknowledge my post (as I try to do too as much as possible.) Take care, Sue

Thanks, Amy. You are doing great, too! One reason I keep rubbing it in with my hubby is because he was teasing me at one point, telling me that I would never weigh less than him. So at least once a day, I say, oh by the way....I weigh less than you!! Enjoy the day! Sue

Thanks Kathleen and everyone, It was a very nice birthday. I received lots of birthday wishes via cards, emails, and posts. My new boss took my wife and I out for lunch, and then my wife surprised me by taking me to the Melting Pot. It was just a great day. Floyd

That's awful Kim. Are there any other surgeons in your area who can take care of your after care of is your Primary Physician going to do it? Is your Primary going to run your labs to keep your vitamin, iron and protein levels checked up on? I belong to this excellent online support group that is in yahoo groups. There's lots of information in the files section about what labs need to be run, medications, post op vitamin schedules and more. Why don't you join so you can read the stuff in the files section. You can then bring the info to your Primary Physician. It's in yahoo groups and it's called: Gastric Bypass-Info Central Link is: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/GastricBypass-InfoCentral/ Lizzie

My surgeon and the hospital I used have closed and I am feeling left out in the cold, so to speak. My reg. primary doctor said she would check on it, too. She doesn't have many rny patients. Thanks for your reply. Kim M.
