Having a hard time choking down my fluids!
I had surgery on 4/25/06 and I'm on my liquid diet. My Dr. chooses to not keep you on clear liquids past the first couple of days because he wants you to start getting protein in right away. I'm having SUCH a hard time with the protein drinks! I was doing alright with water and SF popsicles at first to at least keep myself hydrated, but now i'm having a hard time even choking down plain old water. I just feel nauseated all the time--any suggestions?
HELP!!!
Yeah, I have a suggestion... Back off of your protein drinks. I dont know about your Dr. but mine told me that it is more critical to stay hydrated than it is to get the protein in. Try an ice shaving machine and see if that helps with the fluids. If you think you have to have to have the protein shake, water it down. It is too sweet for your little tummy right now. Im not a Dr. but that is what my Dr. told me. So do with it as you like.

I've sort of been forced to back off on them =)! You're right--I think it is the extra sweet smell that turns my stomach right now. I bought a bag of crushed ice yesterday, so I'll try that. Thanx for your suggestions--I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one unable to handle the protein right now!

My doctor also says that if teh protein is upsetting your pouch don't stress, hydration is more important right now.
What I found for myself was that the protein drinks didn't sit well if they were cold....if I drink them room temp, though they taste worse, they don't upset my stomach as much.
Also, can you mix a protein powder in with your foods? I'm on full liquids and yesterday mixed a scoop of protein powder in with a can of split pea soup....took me all day to eat it, but that alone was 45g of protein. I also dumped some in my SF pudding. The unflavored GNC whey protein truly has no flavor so it'll mix in unnoticed.
Just to go along with Leean's suggestion, try making your foods higher protien by adding flavorless powder and other high protien stuff. For example, I LOVE potato soup and I add cottage cheese, the flavorless protein powder and 2% cheddar cheese to it while it cooks. Takes me a couple of days to eat the whole can, but there is lots of protein in it.

You've provided me with the most interesting recipe! I'm not sure I can handle your specific recipe, but I will try mixing my proteins together...maybe cottage cheese and another type of soup with protein powder. I guess if I can't get it down it'll join everything else in that catagory--down the sink and on to the next combination, right!
