I'm home and doing just fine!!! Long message!!
Hi everyone! I am home from the hospital.....actually came home Thursday evening but have been so tired (and busy) that I just now had a chance to log on. Thank you all for the well wishes, prayers and kind thoughts. It meant so much to come back and read them. You're all the best!
Surgery was uneventful but my poor hubby was a nervous wreck. First of all, the little beeper they gave him (like you get in a restaurant) didn't work. When my surgery was over and the surgeon beeped him, he never got the notification! Meanwhile, I was sent to recovery where I lounged for about an hour and a half and as I'm awakening, I could hear the nurse say "her husband is having a fit because he doesn't know what's happening." I knew right then they were talking about my guy. Anyway, just as I was ready to be sent to my room so my husband could see that I was OK, there was a fire drill and we had to stay in recovery. By the time I did see him, he looked so lost and afraid that it made me want to cry. Even though I was pretty out of it still, I gave him a hug and told him I was fine and not to worry. It is so hard for those waiting for us to come out of surgery.
The rest of my hospital stay was uneventful - just lots of walking, sitting up, sipping, sipping, sipping and more sipping. I had very little pain in the hospital and only used the little pump thing they give you twice. After that, I just took the medications they gave me in the IV line.
Came home Thursday evening and have not been in any pain so have not taken the pain meds that were prescribed. I have been dutifully trying to get my liquids in (I'm on full liquids for a couple weeks) but am having a heck of a time getting in enough protein. The stuff I bought before surgery doesn't taste good to me now. Luckily I had a sample order with all different kinds of protien and I'm finding that I like the berry ones much better than the chocolate and vanilla ones.
And oh crap, I just remembered that I needed to take a Prevacid tablet BEFORE my lunch. (I'm just finishing up now). Guess I'll have to take it before dinner. I seriously think I'm going to have to prepare a schedule so I can check off what I need to be doing. It is so easy to forget or to let time get away from you. Meals last 45 minutes (or longer sometimes). I need to get on track!!
Well, gotta go drink some more water.....hugs to all.
Bonnie
Hi Bonnie,
Glad to see you are home & all went well. I am scheduled to have surgery in 16 days. Are you in the Manchester, NH area? I live on the Maine/NH border and am having my surgery at Southern Maine Medical Center. When you feel up to it, write back & let me know how you're doing? Did you have an open or lap? I'll be having mine lap.
Take care of yourself.

Hey Andrea,
I actually live in central NH - the Lakes Region - and Manchester is about a 45 minute drive for me. I am doing well. I had lap RNY and have 5 little bandaids on my tummy. Inside, I have to say that things don't feel any different.....except that I do not feel hungry at all and have to eat by the clock rather than when my tummy (pouch) says to.....cause it just ain't talking to me yet. Haven't had one bit of nausea and no trouble with hot or cold liquids. I've found a protien powder that is OK and things are moving along nicely.
I'll keep you in my prayers.....hugs.....
Bonnie
Hi again Bonnie,
Sounds like things went really well for you. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a few questions: how's your level of pain? do you have any drains coming out of your tummy or just the bandaids? how long do you plan on being out of work? I'm really hoping to only be out 2 weeks--I have an office job, so my surgeon said if I feel up to it I can go back after 2 weeks.
It's nice to hear that someone not too far from my area has had a complication-free surgery. I'm starting to get a bit nervous--not enough to have 2nd thoughts, just a bit anxious. I had the weirdest dream last night--it was the day of my surgery & I was in the operating room, and the anesthesiologist kept giving me more & more sedation, and nothing was working. Oh by the way, I was in a dental chair!!?? So finally he said to me "I haven't been able to sedate you, so we will have to drill thru your skull to perform the surgery"!!!
I think I might ask my doctor for some valium or something before my surgery--I don't think I can take many more dreams like that!!!!
Well, write back when you get a minute. I hope you're still doing great.
Andrea
by the way, my email address is [email protected]
Hi Bonnie!!!!!
I was about to send out the search team again to go find you! I am so glad to hear your surgery went well and that you're doing good. Sorry though your husband had a time and firedrill!
That's a good idea of preparing a schedule to check off. I'll have to remember to do that! I get so busy at work during the day, it's going to take a lot of discipline to do everything I will have to do in a day with my protein and liquids. And if you only knew how fast I eat now, even at home, to stretch that time out as we're supposed to.... major .
Hugs to you and I can't wait to join you on the losing side!
