Pre-admissions testing
I'm sure most doctors have their own ideas but mine included:
Bloodwork
An EKG
Breathing test and received my spirometer to work with until surgery and after.
An intense health history with vitals.
Weight check with pictures (my clinic encourages a photo journey to remind you of where you've been when you get discouraged).
Nutrition consult.
An hour with one of the nurses to talk about all those things you want to know.
A physical by a staff physician (not the surgeon).
We had a group PAT with 5 of us there, I had met two other patients between the support group meetings and office visits so we had a great time. We were there about 7 hours all told.
BTW...I'll be near you the week after Easter. My SIL lives in Elverson and we'll be visiting for a confirmation for one son, baptism for another! She lived in Pottstown until about 4 years ago!

You are probably also going to need an EGD or an upper GI so your surgeon knows what your insides look like before going on in there.
Unless it's open -- then they may or may not need to do one of those tests.
I'm kind of glad to have had the EGD done, I'd never had anything other than local anesthesia (novocaine) before. Now I feel like I have a better idea of how I might react to the general anesthesia when I have the surgery. Kind of like a "practice".
Not to mention they give you some pretty cool pictures to take home with you. (if you want them; I would suggest taking them if they're offered, when I got to my preop appt yesterday my surgeon didn't have a copy and so I gave the nurse my copy to xerox)
