Hello out there....this is the first time on this site and looking over your letters you all sound great...I started my road for surgery and new life Nov. 15th 2005 had all my test done and ready for surgery in Feb. then they found out I tested (+) for the h.py-lori so now it has been 2 weeks of meds. then the 4 weeks wait time.... now sent in a sample to see if the meds worked...if so then Surgery is on for the 14th of April...this is hardest wait I have had to have....the not knowing if the meds worked then what if...they didn't where do we go from here...they say lets just wait and see....has anyone out there had this same thing..and was it a good turn out..or ????
HI Cheryl
First let me welcome you and congratulate you on your surgery date! You will find lots of love and support here .
Helicobacter Pylori is a bacterial infection in the stomach that causes most ulcers. But I don't think just because you test positive for the bacteria means you have an ulcer.
My friend had surgery 7 months ago and she had tested positive (by blowing in a bag??) also.Took the antibiotics for 2 weeks then had surgery immediately after, no 4 week wait.
Now I'm concerned because I am going to Colombia South America for surgery on the 27th, and all of my pre-op tests will be done the day before surgery. I mentioned this test to my surgeon and he said they don't do the "blowing in the bag"....that when my Endoscopy is done, the doctor will biopsy anything he finds to be abnormal. I don't know what will happen if it is positive since my surgery will be the following day.
I am going to call him right now!
Well, my surgeon said my surgery will not be postponed if the biopsy is positive for Helicobacter Pylori bacteria. I will begin the antibiotics at that time if necessary and that the few patients who have tested positive had NO complications post-op. I've heard so many different stories from different people and their surgeons. Just as with the two week pre-op liquid diet....some surgeons require it so that it reduces the size of your liver but my surgeon said they've found it really makes very little difference in size of liver compared to the added stress the liquid diet adds to your already stressed self in preparing for surgery.
So.... I must trust in my doctors experiences and not worry about it ~sigh~
