So much for "Tentative April surgery"
I have just been informed by Capital BCBS that my claim was disallowed!
They require that I have 6 months of doctor supervised diet documented before an approval! Is there ANY WAY to get around this? Please send me any and all suggestions/ideas! Not sure that my health can wait much longer for this!
Lois - I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Is there any documentation you can gather from your PCP that would show you were weighed regularly by him/her and that you discussed your weight at each visit? I don't know if that might count toward at least some of the 6 month supervised diet. Otherwise, you will probably have to comply with the additional 6 months.....and make sure your doctor documents at each visit that you have discussed your weight loss progress in depth and that you get weighed at each visit.
Don't let this get you down.....I went through a whole program with one doctor and showed up for my pre-op consultation last October expecting a surgery date in November only to be told that he was leaving the state and could not perform any more surgeries at the program I was attending. Talk about disappointment.....I had to transfer to another program which has put me back about 5 months!
Don't worry - you will get there. Just do what you have to do and believe it or not, the time will actually go by quickly. Best of luck to you.

Not saying that this would help in your case, because mines was a little different, but I had my doctor write the insurance company a letter stating the different program that I have tried over the years, and his feeling regarding my results. I have a very good relationship with my pcp. He knows every diet I have tried, some good ones, and some not-so-good ones. I do not know if this information would help, but it sure can not hurt, and I do understand your fustration. I have been trying to have the surgery for going on three years and just got my surgery date last Friday. Through prayers and faith, you will triumph.
