I was wondering if anyone is still losing weight. I started off at 301, today I weigh 118. I am 5 ft 6 and my doc says Im aneroxic. I still have alot of trouble with alot of foods, especially meats. I lost 5 lbs in 5 days this past week and its starting to worry me. Anyone else have this problem? Thank You

Carol, I don't have that problem. I am trying hard just to maintain now. Have you done a food journal? You can use a free site such as sparkpeople.com to see how many calories and how much protien, carbs, and fat that you take in each day. I know you said that you have problems with a lot of foods, maybe you can find something to substitute for them. Can you post a list of what you are able to eat, then maybe we can offer suggestions. You should be concerned about your continueing weight loss, especially since you must be below your goal. Some people do have the same problem as you have, so you are not alone. Check out the graduates message board and ask there. You might get some info there. All the best Sher

Sher, I used to and was very good at keeping a journal at fit day and not only that I kept one in a notebook, that was when I was trying to lose still but since making goal, I stopped all that. My food varies from day to day but I mentally add all my calories at the end of the day and Im not over 700 usually, even if I eat something BAD. I actually started purposely eating choc, drinking soda with calories instead of diet, using sugar instead of splenda etc etc just to try to up my calories but nothing has worked so far. I cant stand the taste of sugar products any more since switching to diet this and that over the past 23 months but as I said, I have been trying anything and everything to get in more calories. I have had terrible blood work recently and have been put on ensure drinks and vitamin A and D prescriptions along with the vitamin b12 that Ive been on since day 1. I also take calcium and a multi vitamin. The problem is, I do get hungry, very hungry at times but then when I sit down to eat, within 3 or 4 bites, I am FULL. I had an upper gi done, the barium swallow thingy a couple of weeks ago, everything is normal. They did say though that usually after all this time, the pouch does stretch some but in my case it never stretched at all and can only hold approx 4 ozs. I called the surgeon that did my surgery who by the way is NOT a bariatric surgeon, hes a general surgeon who has done hundreds of these over the years and came well recommended by family members, anyways, I called him yesterday to make my 2 year appt next month and he called me back after I told his receptionist my weight and my concerns and said he will talk to me about it more when he sees me but he didnt seem concerned BUT my reg doc says Im aneroxic and she IS concerned. I see her again on tuesday of next week as I have bronchitis and its a follow up to that. I usually eat a piece of wheat toast in the morning with my coffee made with splenda and half and half. At lunch, IF i remember to eat lunch is usually a half cup of soup, or a couple of crackers with pnut butter, or maybe an orange or apple. I usually snack on grapes off and on during the day, or canteloupe, watermelon or some kind of fruit. Dinners vary, but I can honestly say, its not much, maybe 2 bites of meat, couple spoons of a veggie, nothing much and IF I snack at night, its usually fruit. So you can see, the calories are very low, I just recently this week started trying the protein drinks again, UGH....Thank You for taking the time to answer. I will check out the other boards too. Again thank You.... PS what bothers me more is that they say I have at least 20 plus lbs of excess skin that could be removed and that would bring me below 100 lbs and I am 5 ft 6. wearing size 2 and 3 jeans if they have any stretch to them and 3 and 4s if their all cotton........

Thanks Lyn, Yes I did check with the surgeon and have an appt next month for my 2 year check up, its my reg doc thats really concerned as Ive had bad blood work and to be honest, I actually dont look healthy any more, lots of bones showing etc. Im quite tall to be at this weight, NOT that I dont like being small, I love it and love the fact I did so well but now its just not fun any more seeing that scale go down is not a good thing any more. I wanted to get skin removed from my thighs and butt but have to stop losing before they will touch me they said and one plastic surgeon said he wouldnt do it becuz it would put me below 100 lbs......so now my doc is telling me to try and gain weigh back up to at least 130.........but NO, Im not trying to lose weight. Thank you for responding, I knew I could count on people here. Everyone has been so helpful here. Thanks again. BTW, I get hungry alot too but when I eat, I get full so quick that it doesnt really pay to eat. 2 or 3 bites, I am DONE.

Carol, please let us know how you make out after your appointment. It has to be a little scarry for you especially if your labs are hurting too. I know not everyone takes to the protien drinks. I have made up my own with unflavored protien powder which I add to a cup of LF milk and then I mix in 4 oz dannon lite and fit yogurt. I really enjoy it that way. Have you tried using the unflavored protien powder? You can mix it in a lot of things to boost your nutrition and calories. Also have your tried eating every two to three hours so you can take in a little amount more frequently? It is wise not to have any PS until your weight is up a little and stabilized and your labs are normal to be safe and have good healing postop. Take care Sher

Thank You Sher, and Yes I do have the unflavored protein powder, and I do use it, occasionally. I really slacked off in the protein dept. I figured I made goal, got way below goal actually so I stopped counting everything etc. Its time to get back on track cuz I really dont feel that healthy any more and as I said, I dont look healthy either. I am drinking the ensure drinks for added calories and nutrients too, they are very expensive though and not very tasty but at this point. I will try anything. Who would of thought I would ever be UNDERWEIGHT. ... And as far as the ps goes, theres no way I can get anything done until my weight goes up a little or at the very least stabalizes. The major skin issue that I have is my legs. They were always HUGE, my whole life. My thigh was 35 inches prior to surgery, today its 17.......so you can imagine the skin there. My doctor said the same thing you did, try eating every 2 hrs or so or even hourly if it helps, so I am trying to do that, its just that I feel full so quickly that I dont take in much. Thanks again Sher

Carol...you will as well as all of us will need protein forever! Please my friend...force yourself to get your protein in....cut some of the fruit and remember do not drink with in 30 minutes to 1 hr after drinking protein shake or eating as you are washing the food out too quick;y. You can do this. You lost the weight and now you need to get healthy. Please know we care about you and want you to be healthy and not sick. Only you can answer the charge of being anorexic. But remember that even though our pouch may be small you can do several small meals daily. And I mean 5-6 a day. String cheese for one, cottage cheese, protein shake, shrimp is another good form of protein and my pouch likes it better than meat or chicken. Please try this..... Love you..... and praying for you.

Thank You so much, I certainly never anticipated that I would continue to lose so much. Some say Im lucky, but when you dont feel good and feel weak all the time, I would say, nothing lucky about it. What I think happened was that I was so careful to never over eat, never drink with meals etc etc that nothing ever stretched and now that Im at the point where I should be able to eat a sensible meal like normal people, my stomach just wont hold it. Thanks for the prayers.
