Hypoglycemia

Hi, everybody! I just had my 18 month check-up yesterday, and Dr. Dallal diagnosed hypoglycemia. I've been having dizzy spells, my hands shake really badly, usually in the late afternoon about an hour after my afternoon snack. So the doc told me to make sure to balance any carbs I eat with protein. Anyone else having this problem? It's not really serious (I've had maybe 5 episodes in 2 months), but Dr. Dallal wants to keep a close eye on it. I can now add this one to my dumping syndrome. He keeps telling me how lucky I am to have this helpful syndromes to keep my 'honest'! Linda B.

I'm hypoglycemic and was pre-surgery also. Did he tell you what to avoid or how to eat to keep that from happening? White carbs (or sugar) will cause your blood sugar to spike then drop low which is when you get the awful shaky dizzy feelings. I keep those little packages of peanut butter crackers with me in case I have an episode. Whole grain carbs balanced with protein and eating every few hours will keep your blood sugar from dropping too low. Lizzie
