Ruth Ann, I had my gallbladder out 2 years before my WLS. It was done laprascopically and I stayed overnight. The pain I had was low on the left side of my abdomen but not anywhere near where the surgery was done, the surgeon said. Felt like a large needle stabbing me. I think it was where one of the scopes sat on my stomach and was pushed on while taking out the GB higher up. Who knows---it went away. I don't think that was normal. Anyway, I had no other problems and was off 2 weeks. I probably could have gone back to work sooner but really wanted the time off. Julia

how weird that you had pain on the left side...,..my pain is on the right side right under the rib cage.....and it's not that sharp stabbing pain...it's just a dull ache.... thanks for your info... Ruth Ann

Ruth Ann, I think I misunderstood your question. I thought you were asking about pain after the surgery. My pain before surgery was just as you described, dull ache that would not go away. Julia

Ruth Ann, I did not want it to be my gallbladder but then I wasn't sure what else it would be, so at least I knew what it was and could have it taken care of. I wasn't in a lot of "pain" just annoying aching. I guess if you wait around until a stone gets stuck somewhere the pain is much worse and the surgery can be more difficult too. Julia

if they tell me that it's stones i'll do what ever they tell me to do.....i don't want it to become acute at all.....

I had my gallbladder out a long time ago (15 years ago). I had it done lap so I didn't have a big incision and felt pretty good after. I stayed overnight in the hospital. I was a stay at home Mom at the time so I didn't miss any work. I think I had some help for the first couple of days at home then was taking care of the house, a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old all day long by myself (Hubby worked a lot of crazy hours back then and wasn't home much). Other than not picking the kids up I did everything. Lizzie
