Can we take extended release medications after surgery? My pcp put me on Ultram ER at bedtime for my fibromyalgia. Are we suppose to do these ER's? Let me know what you think or your doctor recommends. KIm M.

I was told (not by my doctor but by members of a support group) that extended release or timed release meds will go through our systems too fast to work properly. We will get some of the med but it will pass through before the entire extended release had a chance to release. I've not had to take anything like this though so I haven't asked my surgeon about it, this is just info from a support group. Lizzie

i believe we are not supposed to take er meds..but the best thing to do is call your surgeon's office and ask to speak to his nurse...
