Goal weight

Hey folks, I wondering how everyone decided on a goal weight. When I first went to my surgeon they told me my ideal weight would be 137. Then after surgery when I went in for my follow ups I was told about 170-180. I'm at 191 now and feel like a million bucks. I'm very active, lift weights three days a week, run three days a week, and eat pretty good. I put 148 on my ticker as my goal weight but that seems like a million miles away right now. I started at 338. So do you go by dr. goal weights or where you feel your best? Thanks to all . Jennilv

Hi Jennifer! I was told that my 'ideal' weight was 138, my goal was set at 150. My personal goal right now is 160 (I'm 17 lbs from my goal) OR a size 12 pants/14 shirt. I have a large bone structure and some muscle, its not going to hurt my feelings not to weigh 138 as long as I'm comfortable with my weight. I'm the one who has to live with it, not the doctor. Gabby

Hi Jennifer My doctor did not actually give me a specific goal, he just said he would like to see me get under 200, since I started at 326. But I am small to medium boned, average height, 5'4" so I wanted to get to what the charts consider my normal weight to be which is 125 - 145. As of this morning, I am 142.8 so I hit my surgeon's goal and my personal goal, too. I was aiming for the high end at 145. But I would think that everyone's goal is where they are most comfortable. I like weighing what I do now, I feel really good. We just went for some college tours and I had no problem keeping up with the tour. Two years ago when we did the tours for my older son, I had to sit them out half way through. Hope everyone is well. Take care, Sue

Hi- Same as Susan my surgeon said 199 since I started at 384. I am assuming my goal is 180-185 because I don't know what I'll be like when I get there. I think the smart thing to do is what you're doing and not just looking at a number - you're looking at how you feel. I guess I should go by BMI and fat percentage too when I get that far. I too lift weights ALOT and am pretty muscular so I will probably weigh heavier than some at the same weight. Good post. I'm trying to not just look at the scale except in the fact of total pounds lost but just because it's not always your best friend and can be evil After all it is just a machine. . . How you feel is most important

Hi April family, my surgery gave me a goal weight of 180. I am 9 lbs away from that. I would like to be at least 150, but I am like Jenn V. I feel great and I started at 335 and I am now 189. I feel SSSSOOOO much better than I ever thought I would. So if I dont lose another pound is fine with me. I just would like to get some of this excess skin off, then I will be totally happy. My husband is even satisfied with my weight now, so what more could a girl ask for? Right? Hope all is staying cool as this weather sure got hot fast. Take care everyone Kathleen

Hello Jenn...you have done so well and like most say..the scale can't be the only guideline. I would go by how you feel and look to YOU not to everyone else. I hoped when I started researching that I would "please Lord" get to 150lbs. At 5'1" I just wanted to look normal. I weigh anywhere from 136-138 any given day and wear size 4/6 so I do not want to get lower really. I have been on maintenance now for a couple of months. My surgeon said I was at goal when I went to him for 1 year checkup and I weighed 150lbs. I need to continue to work out and build muscle so that is my new goal. Everyone on here has done so well. Love you all..Joan M

Hi Everybody, I have not posted here since January. This is going to post with my picture from about a month out. I look a "little different" now. I'll get a picture soon. Anyway, the goal weight thing is on my mind as well. I have lost 160 pounds, but have 40 more to my goal of 175. According to doctor charts and the BMI calculator, my goal is 155, but I haven't weighed that since I was about 14 and 3 inches shorter. I will be ecstatic to just get under 200 and after 377 I think I may need to accept that as my goal. We'll see. It is a lot of work to lose weight these days. I work out 3 times a week and stick to 3 meals a day, nothing in between and no sugar. I go to OA three times a week and a therapist once a week. I am not complaining, though. I feel so blessed every day. I'll write some of the WOW benefits of my new life in another post. Thanks for bringing this up. Dotsie

Jenn, my doctor thought 133 would be great for me. I am at 147 and couldn't be happier. I am not going to struggle and fight to get to a magic number. I have come so far and so have you. I am just so thrilled to be happy again. Kim M.
