Changing Health Ins After WLS
Hi DeAnn,
The insurance that I was using at the time of my surgery pulled out of the NY market at the end of Feb. This meant that I had to switch to a different carrier. At my job, we have a selection of different plans so I checked that the majority of my drs (including PCP, WLS surgeon, pediatrician and whoever else i could think of, and the hospital where I had my WLS) were in and took my new plan. With the exception of my eye doctor, they all do so I switched. I will be switching again in June because the surgeon I hope to have my plastics done with does not take the insurance I have. I will have to pay a very high premium for a year (and then will switch to a lower cost premium****il I get the plastics done.
As far as problems, I've only seen my pcp on my new plan, but have not gotten any statements for it yet. I will see my surgeon on Friday for my 1 year checkup and get bloodwork done at that time so we'll see what happens then.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
Sue
