Update on Mono and other illness - ugh

My son is doing remarkably well. He was out of school all last week and slept night and day. ( he has mono). He actually went back to school on Monday. He has to nap after school, then he does some homework, then he naps until dinner, lays on the couch after and goes to bed early. I wasn't feeling all that great so I was going to call my Dr. on Monday to make sure I didn't have it. Sunday night I was feeling a lot better so I figured I wasn't going to call my Doctor on Monday. Monday I woke up with a pain in my right leg and my vericose veins looked odd in one place - sheesh do you think I could have gone 24 hrs without SOMETHING being wrong LOL. Called the Doctor who immediately sent me for a leg sonogram and I have phlebitis and one of the valves in my veins is not working at all. I'm being referred to a surgeon. For now until the phlebitis goes away I have to stay off my feet as much as possible and keep my right leg raised even if I'm sitting at a table eating or doing something. Most of the time I just stay in the recliner. Hopefully this will go away soon. Anyone ever have surgery on vericose veins or to replair a nonworking valve in your vein in your legs? I have to talk to my doctor again after he gets the report from the sonogram and then I'll go to the surgeon so I'll know more then. Lizzie

Lizzie I am so sorry about your problems. Please be careful with that leg...I know nothing of phlebitis but I have a torn miniscus (sp?) in my right knee and understand the frustration of having to rest. Hope you are healled soon. I will be praying for you and your son. In Him, Joan M

I'll say some prayers for you too Joan. What are they going to do about your knee? Are they going to surgically fix it? Lizzie

They will schedule MRI and then send me to ortho....bad day today....leg gave out couple of times ad the pain was so bad I screamed and scared my daughter to death...it feels like I have a fracture in my leg....but I am still working (crossing guard) and hoping meds help some. Thanks for the prayers and BTW for the card too... Joan M

Lizzie, Glad to hear your son is doing better, but sorry to hear about your phlebitis. I have not had surgery for any vein problem so I can't offer you any info. I hope that things heal soon. Keep that leg up, prayers are on the way for you to heal quickly. Sher

Lizzie, good luck with the leg. I hope it is not too painful. Make everyone wait on you now! No cooking or cleaning etc.! Thinking about you. Julia

Thank you Julia My Husband works a lot and my older son is off at college. That only leaves my 15 yr old who is recovering from mono so there's no one to wait on me. I'm taking it easy and keeping my legs up as much as possible. Luckily I was all caught up on housework and laundry so I'm not behind yet. My son and I are just laying around watching tv and stuff. Maybe I could make the dogs do laundry? LOL! I found that I can stand at the sink with my foot up on the counter and do dishes while keeping my foot up so I'm staying on top of dishes. Lizzie
