Carb cravings
Hi folks, I've been reading the April 2006 forum for a little while now because I like to see how everyone is doing that is as far out as me. I've lost about 135lbs so far, down from 338lbs, but it seems like everyone is so much closer to their goal. I'd like to get down to 148 so I have some wiggle room. I haven't lost any significant weight since November. My carb cravings are back full force and from 2pm until about 6pm I struggle terribly with the urge to binge on carbs. I know I'm working my tool as much as I need to. Has anyone else had this kind of trouble? I wonder if I have lunch as my morning meal and breakfast for lunch if that would help since I would consume more carbs with oatmeal or cereal? I love any suggestions. Thanks, Jenn.
I'm in the same boat! These carb cravings are hard to fight! Just need to have willpower I suppose. I promised myself I'm going to do better this week though and I will! I'm going back to basics, meaning I plan to eat protein first and limit my carbs to about 20 grams a day and exercise more often.
Personally, I would avoid the oatmeal and cereal...though these are healthy carbs (depending on if what you're eating is flavored/sweetened), there are a lot of carbs in these products and usually eating carbs makes your body crave more carbs. Perhaps you should try going back to basics for a few days. It seems to help a lot of people.
same here..
the hardest part for me, was being told I HAD to up my carbs bcause ketosis is so dangerous for a fetus..
I have been trying to stay away form breads/pasta/carby formed things.. I have been trying to get my carbs from fruit..
OY.. I am very much and all or nothing girl.. I do good when I either CAN eat it or I CAN'T This middle gound is very hard.. I am trying so hard not to build bad habits.
Jennifer V, listen girl you are doing great. 135 pounds is great, that is what I have lost too. We are all going to lose different and we didnt all start at the same weight, so dont compare yourself to anyone else. You are a unique person. As far as carb I think eveyone on here is having trouble with that enemy,
My nutriontist suggested that I only consume 50 grams, but she says not to include any but cracker, pototoes, bread, stuff like that, for the count. I dont know it that will work, but I try to limited my carbs, and I dont eat alot of bread, (havent been able to eat more than 1/2 slice) and I dont eat cereal but maybe once a week. But like I said we are all different. We have trials and tribune (I think that is misspelled) that we have during our lifetime journey so we just have to try and learn
Good luck April sister

Honey you are so NOT ALONE! My head only wants to eat what I can't have! Some days are better than others, not many. I know we have heard this a million times but they didn't touch our heads only our bellies.
We just have to learn not to give into those carbs!
If someone has any ideas please share them!
I am trying to drink lots more water when my HEAD says FOOD, walk, etc.....!
I am fearful of gaining it back....someone said yesterday that overall only 5% of people keep their weight off after 5 years!
That scares me!
Hi Jenn. We had our surgeries on the same day and were about the same starting weight. I was 333. I've lost 121 lbs. I'm at 212. I think we're doing fine
I struggle with carbs too. The more I eat the more I want. I do best to only have very few whole grain carbs, make sure I'm drinking my protein drinks as snacks and try to just keep the carbs out of the house.
I usually have a protein drink for breakfast and then for a snack a few hours later either have an egg or some cheese. I don't eat dry cereal. Very rarely do I have oatmeal but I do eat it sometimes.

Hey Jenn, I am right there with you girl! Those carbs are killing me. I can't seem to stay away from them too. I find the more I eat of them, the more cravings I have. My pouch doesn't do well with breads and pasta but popcorn and cereals cause no problems. I have tried making a protein shake with extras like added yogurt or carnation instant breakfast and fruit is extremely filling for breakfast and gives you a big protein boost for the day. It keeps me full for along time so it cuts down on my intake.
Other than that, will power my dear! Do you know where I can find some?
Good luck and keep fighting the good fight

I am with you there on the carbs..I did buy some rice cakes the mini ones and do 1/2 portion when I am craving them. I keep them in a cupboard just for my food so family won't eat them and when I amin the mood I eat 1 then allow myself only two more and that is it. They are the caramel flavored and are very good. Get the sweet and crunchy... my nutritionist said our carbs should only be about 40% og your toal calories for the day. So when I enter my food on fitday it shows me the percentage that I have had. I plan ahead and that way I am not suprised at the end of the day after I have eaten and can't take it back...if you know what I mean.
You have done great and like everyone else has said we are all difference so do not compare....
In Him,
