Before my WLS my knee doctor told me not to take the stairs, because it was hard on my knee. I need a replacement, but he suggested try the WLS first to see if that helps as he says that I am too young, and the replacement will wear out before I do. Anyway, I have been walking inside at our Activity Center on College Campus. I have decided today to try doing the stairs to see if I could manage them. Guess what I could run down them, and run back up. My Knee doesnt hurt at all. For me this is a big accomplishment as I havent been able to even walk down 2 steps without my knee hurting and bothering me so much that I cry. Just wanted to share with all my wls family. Thanks for listening. Kathleen

Congratulations, I dream of that kind of WOW moment. I still have times when I have to go down them one at a time. And a couple of days lately where I've wanted to go back to the cane. It must be the weather. Jeanne

Kathleen, how wonderful for you. You have helped your knee joints so much with your weight loss and I am sure have extended the length of time before you will need surgery, or possibly even eliminated your ever needing it in the furture. Sher

Kathleen, that is indeed, a great accomplishment. I can walk up stairs at times normally, you know, one foot on each step rather than one step up and bring the other foot up to the same step. There must be an easier way to describe this!! I still am more cautious going down steps. I don't have confidence in my leg muscles yet, to trust them entirely. I am so afraid I will fall. I can do it with use hand rails! My knees no longer hurt to do this, I just need to continue to work on the upper leg muscles until I trust them to lift me. You are doing great----I can't imagine RUNNING up and down stairs!! Good for you!! Julia
