Hi, I had one migraine headache 24 years ago, but now since about 5 months post-op I have been getting migraines. My Dr. prescribed Imitrex which helps the intensity but doesn't totally dismiss the pain. Anyone out there get migraines post-op? What do you take? I asked on another board I frequent as well. All input is greatly appreciated. I hate to go to the Dr. I am afraid of them for some reason. I usually make my husband go with me. He is a saint for sure! Oh the Dr. said I can only use imitrex 4 times in a month or go on a maintenance med whatever that is. Help! Please! Kim M.

Hi Kim-I have suffered from migraines since I was 15 years old. I had them under control for a long time before surgery. I have some "trigger" foods I don't eat. For example-chick peas, cream cheese, yogurt. I have been on many different medicines over 30 years. The one that works for me is Midrin. My doc gave me a sample pack about 20 years ago and if I take them right when I see my "white spots" starting it helps with the pain. After surgery I was getting them 5 times a week. My doctor said it was from all the hormones being released that was stored in my fat and the fast weight loss was triggering them. He put me on Inderal which I take two times a day-every day-and I have been migraine free now. I think that is what he meant by maintenance medicine. My doctor says that maybe when I hit one year post op and my weight slows and stabilizes I can try going off the medicine again. I can really relate to you in having them. My arm and tounge goes numb and I can't see for about a half hour and then the headache comes. I haven't suffered the headache part in a long time though because of the Midrin. Ask your doctor and see what he says. Hope you have some luck with them. Sharon

Sharon, You did it Sharon and wow a light just went on in my head. Never had I thought about hormones and the release from my fat cells before, but now it all makes sense. Thank you for sharing that insight. It makes alot of sense. The migraines just keep coming and I am so frustrated, but now at least I have a better idea of what may be triggering them. I am afraid of Inderal because my hubby took it and had a terrible reaction with it. I will investigate the Midral though. Thank you so much. Hugs, Kim M.
