Skin issues

So, I don't have any kids yet, and it will be about 2 years give or take until we plan on having any. Which means roughly 3 years minimum until I go for a tummy tuck or any plastic surgery for that matter. Unless insurance covers it, I doubt with a new baby we will be able to afford it at all. My skin under my panni has been splitting and bleeding. It has only happened twice in 9 months, and I have taken pictures but not gone to the doctor. I think that I will print out the pictures and take them into the doctor's office the next time it happens. its just such a pain to take time off work and get an appointment at the base clinic. But I did hear that TriCare approves boob jobs after massive weight loss, so I guess when the time comes, I'll shoot for the moon. Have you guys had any skin issues? Are you documenting them? Do you have to wait a long time until plastics like me?

I have some skin issues but I must say my skin looks a lot better than I expected it too. I have some sagging skin on my upper arms(not too bad though) and some on my abdomen but my stomach really seems to be coming up and going in... Not hanging down like I've seen some people I've seen on tv who have had the surgery. I'm 40 years old and started at 333 lbs (currently 222 lbs) Granted, it's not perfect but it's much better than I expected. I'm especially surprised by this because I have two boys, 18 and 15 years old now who were HUGE babies. (10 lbs 4 oz and 9 lbs 12 oz). I was so big I couldn't reach the pedals to drive.. I couldn't get close enough to the steering wheel. I lost a lot of weight 10 years ago and my stomach went totally flat again. I'm sure since I stretched it all back out again when I gained all that weight back that it won't go totally flat this time but I'm pleasantly surprised that it's not sagging down to my knees. My Doctor told me a tummy tuck and breast reduction would be covered by my insurance because of my back problems. I'm going to wait until I'm done losing and have maintained for awhile (preferrably a year if I can wait that long) before I make the decision about whether to have plastic surgery or not. I drink a lot of water and I exercise. I've never been a sun worshiper. I also rub lotion into my skin after every bath but I really think it has a lot to do with just the kind of skin you are born with. My Grandmother is 91 years old and has beautiful skin. I guess nice skin just runs in my family.

I have a huge panni--that being said I haven't had any problems with the hanging belly. I just keep getting yeast infections in my belly button. At my last post-surgery appointment the doctor prescribed a salve for it. It helps some, but still having some problems. The doctor said that she thought it would be covered under my insurance. Of course at the time I didn't know my company was going to be acquired by another with a different health plan....So I will have to see how this insurance company plays out.

Hi Jenn! I do have saggy skin though none of it is causing any kind of rashes or irritation. My insurance will cover a tummy tuck if my skin hangs below the pubis something or another...and well being that it slaps my thighs when I jog, I think it would well enough qualify lol. I'd like to get that done around the end of this year or beginning of next year. I would LOVE to be at goal of 150lbs and maintaining....but I don't know if that will happen. I started at 366 and am now at 214. My husband and I do want to have children..but not for a few more years...we want to be more financially stable and in a bigger house. I've read of a lot of people having children after tummy tucks with little to no damage to the tummy tuck. Perhaps you should pose the question on the post-op pregnancy forum. Good luck April

When my friend talked to Carnie Wilson, she said that having a baby after a tummy tuck is incredibly painful. That alone gives me pause.

Yikes! I wonder what made it more painful? Unless she got pregnant right after having a tummy tuck...that would suck! Though, too, everyone is different.

What you have to remember, too, is that she didn't have a baby before the tummy tuck, so she really can't compare. Cuz, well, having a baby in and of itself is incredibly painful, lol. I use it against my kids all the time. I am looking to do the TT at some point, too, but I knew going into it all that I would have alot of skin left there because that was my biggest problem area. I'd like to say yea that to susan.. because the stretching HURTS like Heck pregnant.. just TRUST me on this one. the only reason I think it might have been worse post tummy tuck would be the surgeon tightening the abdominal muscles, because skin is resiliant and will restretch. I a hoping to get to a maintain point after this baby get moved and then see what my insurance will cover.

That's what she said. Her abdominal muscles were tightened so much that once the baby started growing, the sutures and the tightened muscles hurt quite a lot. I don't know about you, but with all the pain that pregnancy brings, I am SO not going to start adding to it with super tight stomach muscles!
