Has anyone taken Cipro after surgery? I just got a script for it from my PCP for a UTI. I called my surgeon and they said I could take any antibiotic that was prescribed at this point. My question is the insert from the pharmacy says that you have to take them 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking something containing Calcium. How do you manage to get them in. My routine was to have Carnation Instant Breakfast, with milk and a scoop of Designer Whey on my way to work and my multivitamin. About 10 I have 4 oz of Dannon Light and Fit yogurt, and a CA supplement. At lunch I have the other multivitamin. After work the second CA supplement. Now I have to figure out how to get those all in. Jeanne

Jeanne, I usually get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and have my Calcium sitting there waiting and take one then. The other one I take during the day, usually mid afternoon. I take the chewable chocolate flavored ones from Bariatric advantage, so can chew them up anytime. Most of your vitamins etc. should be taken 1 hour after or 2 hours before the Calcium. Calcium interfers with the absorbtion of the other medications. Julia

I talked with the dietician today and she actually said that if the Calcium you're taking is Calcium citrate you can take it with vitamins. Calcium Carbonate you need to take separately. So I think that I can manage, taking the CIPRO at 12 N and midnight. Yes, I am a night owl. Jeanne

you might have to cut your calcium down for the couple days you are on it. It won't affect your bon denisity for those couple days and it will get rid of the infection which is more important at this time.

I agree witih Stacy too. I don't think not taking calcium for a week to 10 days is going to do anything. It's certainly more important to make sure the antiboitic is working properly now. Lizzie
