TOTALLY SHOCKED AND FREAKED OUT!
Hello all:
I just wanted to share a little story with you that freaked me out the other night.
To start at the begining, there are about 7 people at my church that have had RNY surgery. Every single one of them has put weight back on and one never even made it close to her goal!
I was at a women's group christmas party on Tuesday night and what I saw not only shocked me, it scared the crap out of me.
Glaydis went up to get her food (we all brought dishes) and her plate was pilled so high my mouth dropped open. I could not believe this is what she could eat 6 years after RNY!!!! I just about Sh$t. In the last 6 months she has put on 60 pounds plus!
Bonnie, one of the other ladies that never made it to her goal and cheated from the get go also was eating this way. She has about 100 pounds left to loose! 5 years out.
When they were done their plates, THEY WENT FOR CAKES AND PIES!!!! Sugar!!!!!! And lots of it!
Gayle, who has put on about 30 pounds (her husband about 50 pounds) also induldged in cakes and crap!
Dear God, please don't let me fall back into this life style. Please let these people be a warning and example to me and the rest of us that this is just a tool and we could trick this surgery all over again!
Most of all, I want to take these people and shake them! Especially Glaydis! Her pouch is stretched beyond belief if she can eat like this!
Ok...done venting.
Shelly
WOW - how sad. God save me from going down that path. And we need to remember that those bad habits can creep back into our lives so silently and we don't realize it until we actually take a step back and analyze what we are doing.
I am sorry that the post ops at your church have fallen so far off program. I hope they can get back on track if that is what they want to do (but it sounds like they were pretty happy chowing down).
Bonnie
Hi Shelly,
I know many people who have also went back to their old eating habits, put the weight back on, and one has even gone back 3 years post op (even after plastic surgery) to have the bypass again, she'd stretched her pouch so big.
I was at a party the other day and watched one woman go to the buffet table, no less than 5 TIMES, in about an hour, and her plate portions were not small, at all. She also had two glasses of wine. The saddest thing was that I saw her go to the bathroom twice in that hour. I'm sure to dump. I just wanted to pull her aside, first give her a hug, and then shake the sh&t out of her.
I guess, while still in the days of trying to get it off, I just can't comprehend putting it back ON. These people obviously never dealt with the issues that led them to obesity in the first place. It's very sad. I read an article the other day that said after gastric bypass, patients are likely to go back to old eating habits OR replace the food addictions with one or more of the following three: excessive shopping, alcoholism, or promiscuity.
All I can say is, God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.
AMEN, to the God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, etc. It is sad to hear about people doing that I am sure it is even worst to see. I hope God helps me to keep losing the weight I need to lose and not put it back on. I need God and all my WLS family to help me stay motivated in this lifetime journey.
Thanks everyone for lending a ear and a shoulder. God Bless each and every one of us.
Kathleen
Shelly, Your message is a great one. I am not around anyone when eating, that has had WLS. I have noticed that I am slipping and eating (snacking) nuts, knowing that they are protein. They are so easy to just get a few, then a few more etc. GRAZING! Yep that is what it is. I will not buy them again. I have lost 111.5 pounds and have about 70 to 75 to go so I mus****ch what I put into my mouth more than ever at this stage or my bad habits will return and I could end up like your friends and that would be so devastating to me. I cannot let that happen. We all need to take a good look at our habits at this stage of the game, when we are starting to lose less each month. I know I do and I need to increase my exercise too. Christmas is always a hard time for those of us trying to lose weight with or without WLS, so now is the time to really scrutinize our habits to make this thing work for the long run, our life time!!
