Protein Question
I have been using two scoops of protein powder lately with 8 ounces of skim to make a shake in the blender with ice. I assumed I was getting in 54 grams of protein. (23 grams each scoop and 8 grams in the milk). Someone on another website just e-mailed me and told me our body only can absorb a certain amount in an hour and the body flushes out the rest. Is this true? I thought I was getting a big chunk of my protein out of the way by doing this. Help!!

Yes, this is why I do three 6oz shakes at 25 gr protein each, morning, noon and dinner time or after dinner. And add other protein from food. I did my first frozen dinner yesterday....WW SmartOnes Chicken Santa Fe...140 cal and 20 protein and 11 carbs.
Carbs freak me out but I lost a pound yesterday...so maybe I did need more food.

Hey Sharon! From what I hear, try to shoot for 30g of protein in an hour's time. That 8oz of milk will give you 10g alone. I just recently started making my shake with 4oz soy milk (or skim), 5 ice cubes, and one scoop powder (23g). It comes out to 30g total and its a lot less to drink down. Two shakes a day at 30g each should REALLy help you to reach your daily goals and maybe exceed them! Yay for more protein than we need!
I wonder, if you drink 54g of protein and only absorb 30g, do you still count all those calories as well? This is another reason why I lowerd the millk to 4oz instead of 8.
