I had an IUD put in because my periods were so crazy. He said that after a few months I should hardly have a period at all. I have had one like clock work every month but at least they are a normal 7 day one's not a 45 day one any more. I couldn't take oral birth control pills. They made my legs get big red splotches on them. My doctor said that I must be allergic to something in the pill. Best of luck on the pills. I hope that it helps your period issues. Melissa

I had my husband fixed two weeks before my surgery...hahahaha. However, I find that since my surgery, my periods are every 28 days like clock work and very very very heavy!!! I think it is all the healthy eating and iron I am taking??? I wish there was a way to get rid of them all together!!! They suck!

Rebecca - I was on BC before the surgery to help regulate and have continued to take them afterward. My periods have gone from heavy and lasting for a week or more before the surgery to one heavy day and it lasts for 4 days. Cramping is way down from before the surgery - maybe one or two days. Everyone is different though because my sister went from no cramps before her surgery to really bad ones after. Hope they help you - will be one less thing to worry about.

Dr. told me that the pill isn't absorbed by us. (I've heard differing opinions on this) I got the Nuva Ring and found out that a lot of my wls friends accidently got PG while on the ring. So, next I plan on taking the patch. I head that it wasn't effective unless you're under 200 pounds. Although I am very wary of my gyno these days...

Jenn research the patch before you go to the doc's office. There have been a few deaths from the patch in our area. I don't know much about it other than that. I don't use anything due to the fact that I had all those girl parts taken out of me 4 years ago. So now I am just a moody witch, most of the time! Good luck ladies!

Sometimes it takes your body a few months to adjust to the pill and the new hormones...if it's been more than a few months then I'd call your doc and ask for a diffrent pill. My cycles since surgery have been perfect 30 days...makes me CRAZY because I hate my period. I had a tubal ligation almost 2 years ago because I had issues with birth control pills and knew I was done with kids anyway. For those with heavy long periods, almost a year ago I had an endometrial ablation (I won't get into details) because they were REALLY heavy and would last 10 days. Since the EA they are about 3 days and only 1 day requires any type of "protection" the other days are just "wipe-n-go." Life is so much better now. So if you really are having issues and you are done having kids ask your GYN about it because it can work wonders and isn't nearly as invasive as a hysterectomy.

I have heard too many stories about people getting pregnant in that first year after surgery so I went and got an IUD. Also they say the Mirena will help you have light to no period after a few months.
