I am now on my third Kidney infection and have also had a Kidney stone in the 4 and a half months since my surgery. I'm trying to drown myself with water to prevent this from happening, but as you all know, that's a little hard to do, since we can't drink with meals and we have to sip small amounts at a time--i'm still managing to get about a liter and a half in a day (which is a heck of a lot more than two months ago!). The urologist says that once a stone-former, always a stone-former, and I did have a kidney stone before surgery. He also tells me that eating high amounts of certain things like--get this--PROTEIN--will cause stones to form faster in certain people. My sister asked me if I have my own room by now in the E.R.! Being down with sick kidneys so much has also slowed my energy and exercising way down--and therefore, i'm sure my weight loss. (I'm still losing, although not as fast as I could or should be). I have NO energy!!! Has anyone else had any problems with their poor little kidneys? Am I doing permanent damage to the little things?

Belinda, I have had kidney and bladder infections my entire life. I can relate to what you are going through. I had a stone pass once but thank God I haven't had anymore. I am waiting for results for a urine sample and culture because I have had a back ache and fatigue with no fever. These things sure can make you feel yucky!!! I had the DS so I can get in plenty of liquids so that is a good thing. I find that putting a warm compress(rice bag) on my sore kidney seems to ease the discomfort somewhat. Just get plenty of rest and remember to take your vitamins. Best Wishes and keep us posted, JackieDH

Belinda, OUCH!! I have gone through 2 rounds of antibiotics for UT infections since surgery ( I think it was bladder more than kidney this time). This was about 6-8 weeks ago. I have had no recurrence of the infectin. I also have a hstory of kidney infections but mine was not a bad or long one. I do try to drink lots of water - I know they say sip sip sip but I do more of a gulp gulp gulp. As long as the water is not ice cold - it does not bother me. I just try to stop 30 before eating and not start until 30 after. Hope you're feeling better soon. Zap those bugs!! Cathy
