Just wondering if anyone else eats carbs. I'm supposed to have some carbs - (my nut said it would help reduce my hair loss) but I was wondering what all my other April peeps are doing out there. What carbs do you eat and how many servings per day? Everyone is doing so great!!!! Denise

Yes.....around 50 units per day (9 per unit). I think the hair loss thing is something that just keeps happening. I am hoping the the B-12 supplement helps with that.

I do eat carbs and I'm not suppose to per nuts instructions, but its really hard just sticking strictly with protein. I watch the amount, though I don't monitor it through counting grams. For instance I the other day, I had a individual bag of pretzels (PMS). I CRAVE salty carbs (crackers, chips) more so than sweets now as pms symptoms whereas presurgery I craved sweets. When I do have carbs like that, I really push myself with the exercise. April

Yes , I am allowed to eat fruit and veggies everyday. But Breads, pasta, rice and Potatoes I am only allowed 3-4 times per week. So that is what I stick too. I am also supposed to do wheat whenever possible instead of white. Potatoes do not agree with my pouch. So I stay away from them. I am glad that my pouch doesn't like them. Because they were one of my biggest problems before surgery. I loved french fries, scalloped potatoes, mashed potatoes and of course chips. So I am thank ful that I can't eat them. Melissa

I eat goldfish pretzels once in a while, just a few. Rice Cakes, soy chips, mashed potatos, so fruit and veggies. However, I try to get my protein first and then eat the other stuff.

I eat carbs, although I try to eat "smart" ones. If I have any bread, its whole wheat or similar. If I eat potatoes it is only a small amount, and after protein. I completely stay away from rice, as much for the carb factor as for the fact it expands in your tummy. I occassionally will have pasta but not often. My nutritionist wants me to eat a normal, balanced meal and not cut anything out as far as the main food groups. Her line of thinking is that if I try to hard to follow rigid guidelines I am making this a diet, when it is a life style change and need to learn to eat "normal" and be able to do so in a healthy way while losing weight.

Stupid me didn't realize fruit is a carb!! I have been scarfing cantaloupe all summer thinking I was doing well...damn!! I don't eat much bread. Maybe 1/4 slice of rye with tuna sometimes. I have been munching pretzels lately and have been trying to stop. I didn't think 4 or 5 was bad. My nut never really told me not to eat carbs. I get so mixed up like always with all this carbs, etc. I know what protein is though. Can someone give me a rundown on carbs? Here is what I eat usually in a day. Breakfast-Cottage cheese 1/2 cup and cantaloupe Snack-Kashi Bar-fruit and nut all natural-has 6 or 8 grams of protein or string cheese. Lunch-1/2 Tuna on 1/2 of rye toast with lettuce and tomato. Usually don't finish bread. Snack-Protein shake with 1-1/2 scoops and 8 oz skim. Dinner-Protein-chicken, fish, meat. scoop of veg and 2 teaspoons of rice or potato Snack-Fruit or 45 or 5 thin pretzels or micro popcorn light or dried fruit and nuts. Plus my vitamins, water, etc. Is this good? Thanks-Sharon

Yeppers. I eat fruit, and will on occasion have a few crackers, I love pretzels but don't eat them often. Also will eat potato on occasion...I try to eat sweet potato for the other vitamins. I will also sometimes eat a sandwich (1/2 sand.on whole wheat bread..works best if its toasted).

My nut said that while I NEEDED to eat the protein first it was also essential to eat enough carbs to balance out what you are losing from exercising. That good carbs are necessary to the body for endurance.
