Some Advice for my April friends
I just wanted to give you all some advise about paying extremely close attention to your body now. I had my gastric bypass on 4/3 and have been sailing along in the sea of losing with no problems or complications what so ever. I have followed everything that the doctors told me, if they told me NO to something I listened, if they told me to do something I did it. I was the "model" patient. I woke up the morning of 8/5 feeling like someone had a hand on my pouch and was squeezing it and it was causing some pain. I kept a very close watch on this pain and went off and enjoyed my vacation. I didn't feel good my entire vacation though, but it wasn't anything that kept me down. Well I returned home on 8/13 and that night I was rushed into the emergency room doubled over in pain and that slight squeeze was now a feeling of someone ripping my entire insides out. They did a CT and an EGD and found nothing, they stopped all foods and I didn't eat for 2 1/2 days and the pain subsided. After the EGD I was allowed to eat again, well 2 hours after I ate once again I was doubled over in pain. This went on for 1 1/2 days. Finally on Wed night 8/16 they decided to go in the next day and have a look around. So on 8/17 my wonderful surgeon went in and did a diagnostic laproscopy (sp)j and found that some scar tissue and wrapped itself around the "Y" part of my intestines and had twisted it. She removed the scar tissue and some other scar tissue caused from my bypass and sent me back to recover. I am happy to announce that I am doing better. I am not 100% yet, but I am 100% better then I was.
I felt compelled to warn/advise others who might be experiencing the same pain, to not put it off and get back to your surgeon ASAP. With me paying close attention to the pain I was able to save my own life by getting to the ER quickly. I did ask the doctor if I could have died and the answer was yes.
Always stay intune with your body, it could save your life.
Take care,
Deanna
hi deanna..
i'm so glad you finally got to the ER!! How scary it must have been...
i'm curious.. is what you had, also referred to as adhesions? i've heard that it's common to get adhesions [the fusion of scar tissue to healthy tissue, i believe]. i'm at a high risk for these due to my many abdominal surgeries.. so i'm always on the lookout for the signs!
thanks,
