My Alaska Cruise story

I have been on vacation for 14 days. I had a wonderful time in San Francisco visiting with my mom and dad. We went shopping, sightseeing, did touristy stuff, ate some good Japanese food, (which is so unlike my parents) and I miss them already. Brad and I took off for Alaska on the 14th (a 10 day cruise) and the seas were a little rough at the beginning. I soon got my sea legs (still have them!) and enjoyed myself. It was weird though, you are surrounded by food 24 hours a day. That used to be my favorite part of cruising. And now that I am unable to eat everything in sight, my source of entertainment on the boat was kind of gone. The sugar free desserts were very good though. Our fellow cruisers exceeded us in age by at least 40 years. I got yelled at by both an old man and an old lady, hit by a walker, and run over by a wheelchair. They yelled racial epithets with abandon, and one guy even yelled at some very well-behaved children. I promise to never become a crotchety old person. I really enjoyed Alaska, and would move there in a heartbeat. I love the fog and rain and the temps were 52-60, just jacket weather, which I loved. I ran into an old friend from Atlanta in Sitka (the smallest city we visited), which made the world seem very small. He evidently spends his summers working in Alaska. I asked him what they do for fun (no movie theaters, etc.) and he said, "We fish. A lot." I got to see whales, sea otters, seals, a bunch of bald eagles, and a mountain squirrel crawled up my jeans leg to get a peanut in Juneau. That was pretty cool. If I could go back to any one place, it would be Juneau. There seems to be a lot to see and do there. The salmon were almost finished spawning, so there weren't that many left, but at the same time, there were not that many dead fish laying around either. I had a bunch of wardrobe malfunctions on the boat, due mainly to the fact that things that fit when I packed them didn't fit by the time I got around to wearing them. I lost 3 pounds in the 2 weeks I was on vacation, but I have a feeling that I lost more inches. The one pair of black shoes I brought were WAY too big and I flopped around in them every night. Both pairs of jeans are either stretched out or are now too big. Either way, there is quite a bit of material bunching around my waist and crotch that wasn't all that nice to look at. =) Anyway, feels good to be home. Jenn (254)239/186/145
