No energy-can't drink, eat enough Help!
Hi friends, I need some advice. I had surgery on the 25th of April. I weighed 244 at preop. 233 on surgery day and now weigh 189. I am tired alot. I can not seem to get enough protein or liquids in. I do fairly well on liquids, but how on earth do you get all that protein in. My labs were a little off for transferin, rdw and alt, if that means anything. I have had horrible headaches, and my surgeons's nurse said my blood work did not indicate anything out of the ordinary that would immediately send up a read flag. I see my surgeon in 2 weeks for my 3 month check up. I have taken one trip to the er for shots to stop my headache since tylenol doesn't touch it. Any ideas folks? Kim M.
Hi Kimberly, My surgeon is not a fan of protein suppliments at all, the weight loss physician who spoke at our last support group is a hugh advocate of protein suppliments as is the nutritionist. If you are having difficulties getting in your protein, I do also, consider supplimenting. SF Jello puddings made per package instruction, 2 cups of milk (skim or 2%) add 1 to 4 scoops of unflavored or vanilla whey protein powder blend as directed and pour into portions, I get 6 or 7 servings in plastic containers with lids. It keeps for a week in the refrigerator. I usually have one before going to work in lieu of breakfast as 5am is way to early to think about an egg or cereal for me.
Congratulations on your progress to date.
Carol
Sorry you are having energy problems. I find that if I don't take all my supplements every day I lose my energy. Are you managing to take your vitamins?
I also see a difference if I don't do protein supplements. On the weekdays I have a 35 gram protein drink for breakfast, but on weekends I have a "regular" breakfast, so I use Profect protein tubes. They have 25 grams of protein with 0 sugar and 0 carbs in only 2.9 ounces of liquid. I think of them as another vitamin supplement. They are very sweet, but I like most of the flavors. They are also expensive, but I figure that I am not spending much on food these days....
I have started going to water aerobics twice a week after work and I use Profect to give me the energy to get through that at a time of day when I am usually very low on energy.
Good Luck. Staying on top of my nutrition is proving to be more of a challenge than I expected.
