kidney stone updateT
My hubby rocks. he went and sat at the hosp with me for like 3 hours. My procedure was suppose to start at 11:30am we had to be there at 10. I was finally rolled in at 2pm.
My doctor rocks. If anyone ever needs an great urologist in the sac metro. Hit me up this guy gets 2 thumbs up.. and I hate docs so.
He came in before and we talked. we asked him how big it was an he explained that usually 4-5mm stones will pass on their own. This one was meassured 8mm. So it was VERY doubtful even if it was trying to pass on it's own it couldn't.
We asked him how long it would take it for the procedure. he told us it would be as fast as 20 min to an hour.
well it was closer to 2 hours. Things can never be easy can they? First he had to dialate my ureter with a balloon so that he could even get to the stone. apparently I had some scar tissue. Not sure why. Undiagnosed stones? or maybe this one moving all around in there?
Then I guess the little bugger was wedged in such a way that it was hard to break up. Plus I guess it was just a tough bugger anyway.
He ended up nicking my ureter so I have a stint or shunt in enabling the tube to be used and give it time to heal.
It needs to be in for at least 2-3 weeks so when I get home from NL we'll make an apt and have it removed.
But let me tell you I am peeing some serious blood.. It's kinda scary, but I guess it's to be expected.
I came out with a prescription for an antibiotic and detrol LA for bladder spasms. come to find out neither are covered by my insurance and was goint o be $160.00 Ummm no. I called the oncall doc and he's getting me a different version that my insurance should cover.
My Percocet was cover though
they think it's been there for a while with all the scar tissue.
it probably doesn't have much to do with my calcium supplements... it couls but we don't know for sure.
but they took me off then 1.5 months ago and they are waiting for this to clear then they will be running some tests to see why it formed.
