Hi all, I am wondering how much protein everyone is getting in. I was reading today how we need between 100 and 140 if we have had the RNY. I have been increasing my protein over the last week so I think today I made it to that goal. However, I don't think I realized just how important it is to get it and to get it in liquid form as well as food. How is everyone else doing with it? How are you getting it into your day?

My doctor said 50 grams of protein at the MINIMUM!!! But, wants us to shoot for 60-80 grams a day! We just had this conversation at support group last Tuesday, because I CANNOT TOLERATE PROTEIN!!! I was told to get atleast 50 or else my teeth will start falling out and other problems too. I started the profect drinks on Wed. so atleast I am getting 25, thats way more than I was getting for the past 2 1/2 months. Amy

Wow, that seems like a lot. My doc said 50-60 (I thought it was 40-50, but read thru my info last night...I was wrong!), I do good to hit 40. I think I'm going to have to rethink the protein drinks.

I'm lucky if I hit 40 per day. I'm averaging about 350 - 400 calories a day as well. My diet is pretty much Morningstar Farms Veggie burgers, cheese, and fruit. Can't go near chicken - it makes me so sick!

Okay, I checked the information I got from the RD at my doctors office. She said women require 50-70 grams of protien per day. However, information I have from ObesityHelp which came from Sally Myers RD and regular contributor of the OH magazine is that if we have had the RNY surgery then we need to be basing our Protein needs on this formula. "Subtract 120 from your current weight. Multiply that by .25 and add 120. For me that is 169 grams per day. The good news is that as I loss weight I get to drin less protein! The reason for this is that due to malabsorption we only process about 50 percent of what we take in. Anyway, it seems there is differnt information out there. I will need to discuss this when I go to see my Nutritionist again.

Hi everyone, I usually hang out over on the BMI over 50 board but thought I'd cruise over and see how all the April people are doing. I was having a horrible problem getting my protein in so I started drinking Isopure shakes. I buy the HUGE 3lb container and mix with 2% milk. I have a shake in the morning and one at night. Each shake is 25 grams of protein and they are pretty tasty. I get 50 grams from the shakes and then whatever protein I take in from my meals. I've been eating ALOT of fish lately and that helps. I've also tried one protein bar. It had 14 grams of protein but it was very nasty. I managed to eat half of it. Jamie 297 starting-238 now

I'm not sure if this question was for me but I'll go ahead and answer. I drink: Isopure from GNC. It's kind of expensive but good. I buy it in 3lb containers. Jamie
