Ziploc Omelets for rushed mornings
I had this recipe emailed to me and although the concept is good for kids and company, I have found that this works great to make up ahead of time and I boil my omelet while getting dressed each morning. I love Jimmy Dean's new Breakfast Skillets (has sausage, beans, cheese, etc, just add egg) and a small handfull of this mixture, plus an egg in each bag does the trick. I make up 5 at a time, one for each weekday morning, and presto... I have breakfast pre-made. So yummy, even my son and hubby are trying to snatch them from me!
ZIPLOC OMELET
(This works great !!! The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!)
Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.
Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.
Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.
Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.
Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.
Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.
Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready. And in 13 minutes, you got a nice omlette for a quick breakfast!!!
My mom just told me about this last week Robin...we're going to do it when we have our big family get-together the first weekend in July...lots of different cut-up veggies/meats/cheese for everyone to select from and make up their own! This is a GREAT idea and I'm going to try it this week for myself! Thanks for sharing it with everyone...I hadn't thought about doing it just for myself.
