I had my surgery on the 10th of April so I am right behind you. I was also a little depressed today. Thinking that I should have lost more than 33 pounds. But today for the first time since surgery I have gotten three compliments from people at work. Not people I work with on a daily basis, But people I have worked with in the past and see in the halls. So that made me feel better. You are doing great and just think it could be that you are loosing more inches than pounds right now. Thanks! Melissa

HI - I'm right there with you! I had my surgery on 4/26 and in the first 3 weeks, lost 20 lbs, and then only 3 lbs - over 3 weeks or so. What I did notice is that in the 3 weeks that I only lost 3 lbs - I lost 2 inches around my chest, 2 inches around my hips, and 5.5 inches around my belly - the lower part where I carry a lot of weight. So, I've put the scale away and will only weigh once a month now. The measuring showed me that even if the scale isn't showing anything - I'm losing. You may want to try measuring yourself. I'm only going to do that once a month also. I think we hear so many people say the weight will just fall off! - and then - it's such a surprise when it doesn't. Also, I've heard people say that at this stage for all of us, our body is adjusting and that the weight loss will speed up a bit as soon as our body gets over this shock. I hope so. I'd heard that I could expect to lose 4 -6 lbs a week - and obviously - I'm nowhere near that. Take care gals! - We're a lot better off where we are today than where we were 2 + months ago. ~carolyn

Denise - Thanks for posting this - I was miserable thinking I was the only one. I had lost 30 lbs by my 6 wk appt., but that was all in the first 3 weeks. Grrrrrr! And now at just over 2 months I may have lost all the way up to 33-35 (my scale is way off from the doctor's). And I haven't been weighing all that often. I waited after the 6 wk visit to my 2 month anniverasry to weigh again. Bleh! Thanks for all of the support and commiseration!

Denise, It is hard to keep it in perspective, isn't it? But you are doing GREAT! Almost 4 1/2 pounds a week! FANTASTIC! I've felt the same disappointment when the scale's not moving but I keep checking my weekly average weight loss and that helps quite a bit. Hope you're feeling better this evening! Sharon

I'm a slow loser also. But I know from seeing my mother-in-law that it is possible to have this surgery and the weight NOT fall off. She lost about 10 pounds a month. At 9 months out, she had lost 90 pounds and so when everyone else sees my progress, they think it's "fast" but to me, it's not. I thought I would be losing 20-25 pounds a month. But then I'm like, this gives me a better chance to not have the excess skin and to tone as much as possible. I am 7 weeks out and plateaued for nearly 3 weeks. I lost 26 pounds the first 3 weeks, then 4 pounds over the next 3 weeks and then BAM, over night, lost 5 pounds then another pound the next day. So I'm down 36 pounds. I started out at 295 but NOONE knew I weighed that much, LOL. I've always looked 30 pounds less than what I weigh, no matter if i was 180 or 295. So as my friends always say, you better THANK GOD you don't look like what you weigh, LOL. I've been getting tons of compliments lately at having lost a "ton" of weight. And it's funny, because I haven't lost a "ton", just 36 pounds. But I definitely feel great and I'm glad I can breathe in my clothes now. So after all of this, I CAN say I am blessed and 36 pounds lost is better than 36 pounds gained!

Hi Denise Congratulations on your weight loss thus far! That is 35 pounds that you probably wouldn't have been able to lose prior to this surgery. I plateaued from my 4th to my 6th week (I'm 6 weeks out today). I tried not to get discouraged because even though I wasn't losing pounds, I was still losing inches. Now I've started moving again. The past week or so though I've been in a funk... I think my body is playing games with my mind. But this too shall pass . And even though we are blessed with having the surgery and everything else in our lives, it's OKAY to vent. You KNOW you can do it here and it will always be OKAY. Take care!
